Is it best to set contrast, sharpness etc in camera, or keep settings neutral and make alterations with software afterwards?
Would software recover any shadow detail lost with high camera contrast?

I'm a bit new to this digital lark, if you hadn't guessed!

Thanks
Garry

If you are shooting RAW it doesn't really matter (as you can change all those settings in RAW), although it will effect your images if you are shooting JPEG.

If your editing the jpegs after anyway I'd leave them at the defaults, if your using them stright from camera then you might be worth setting up they way you like.
If your using raw it makes no difference as Purpleclouds says.
