Morning all,

Do many people use these?

the reason I ask is because next weekend I am traveling the country on coach to cover a game, what I am looking at doing afterwords is editing the main pics, adding to my site and then contacting the relevant papers to choose shots they want, once that's done and they get back to me I can email over the bigger shots they require

Now the only way I can see of doing this while sitting on the bus on the way home is 3G dongle, are they good? reliable and any use on the move?

Thanks in advance

Steven

I use THREE and its great... stays on all through coach journeys to distance games.... mines PAYG and a tenner lasts me a month no problem... will be using it pitchside tonight :)

Good to know they are good

I had only looked at Vodafone to go alongside my phone contract

Do you just use PAYG then?

yep a tenner gets me a gig of bandwith which is plenty.. i have never come close to using it.. you can get 3 gig for 15 quid and stuff liek that... I use mine for a few matches a month sending pics.. and as i said long coach journeys using the internet there and back

I can log in at three.co.uk and check my usages and top up online.. all quite easy :)

I also use Three, never any problems with it...always hear people complaining at matches about how vodafone are unreliable...same with o2

Another one for Three and no problems

Another vote for 3, has been fantastic.

I have an 02 dongle as well but i cant remember the last time it got used

Add my voice to using Three as well - 1GB should be plenty for sending photos. For me - on PAYG - I use easily the 3GB allowance due to sending large video-files from games.
The reception is good - even on motorways (I put the videos to upload before starting to drive).

I would only need PAYG to be honest and not a monthly contract for what it was worth

Three seems to be best going off recommendations but the cost seems high compared to others

I used have a Vodafone dongle and paid £15 per month. I now use 3 which costs only £7.50 (maybe slightly higher since vat went up). Not as much usage as my old Vodafone but plenty for what I use now.

What do you mean by high? Are you looking at the "purchase" price and thinking that's the recurring monthly cost?

You have to pay the initial outlay for the dongle which is £21 (you might be able to get it slightly cheaper if you shop around) and that includes 1GB/30 days of data. After that you then just top up £10 every 30 Days to get a further 1GB of data.

EDIT: The £82/12GB option is the best value. You get 12GB of data which is valid for 12 Months (so 1GB/Month average). If you buy the £21 dongle, you'd then spend a further £110 to get 12 months of usage.

Ah, I hadn't took into consideration the cost of the dongle to

Is it just a case of topup £10 when needed, so close season for example of winter if not used I could simply leave it un topped up and then just top it up when i eed it? data lasting 30 days from top up

am I right in thinking thats the case

you sure your looking at the right thing mate? more info than "gone up" please? :)

I was looking at the cost and forgetting about the cost of the dongle

I have seen that now, going to just go for the PAYG one for now as I dont need an 18 month contract

same as me... dont need it over summer and dont need it every week at footy..

I'm on 3 as well, I can normally get a signal pretty much anywhere, even where thers no orange signal, had fits trying to get T moble to work properly, we gave up in the end with that.

Another vote for '3'. I recently bought a brand new Mifi (wireless) dongle to connect my ipad to. Never had ANY problems at all with '3'. Ive recently sold my ipad so i'll be adding the Mifi up for sale on here shortly.

My 3 options are:

500MB a day- £2
1GB mth- £10
3GB mth- £15
7GB mth- £25

Check out amazon got my 12gb preloaded from there think it was cheaper than 3 shop

plans seem good aswell on PAYG

not sure how many matches togs do/cover but 500mb per day may work out cheaper than the £10 per month if thats its only use

Another vote for Three. When we were staying in temporary accomodation waiting for the completion on our new place, we couldn't get a decent reception with any other dongle. Luckily Argos were having a deal on the pre-loaded ones at the time and it easily lasted us for general web use. Not sure what extensive photo uploading would be like though.

If possible (may not be if you travel a lot) check coverage with your chosen network

I work at CPW and sell these all the time. the best deal is a 3 one, its a 30 day rolling contract so you cancel it with 30 days notice whenever you want and £15.99 per month gets you 5gb. its £4.99 to buy the modem so £20 and you got 5gb for a month if you cancel it a day after getting it.

better value than any pay as you go one.

Yet another 3 user here. I've used Vodafone and BT dongles but neither were anything like as reliable. Never had a problem at the vast majority of games I do. The only time it gives me issues is at a big, busy stadium like the SoL or St James' Park. It will work sometimes, but it does also goes off at irregular times throughout the game, (and ALWAYS at half time) I guess it simply struggles to find a perfect signal with all the big stands on four sides and people in them all using phones at the same times! I would still reccomend it 100% though, outside of those big grounds it has never once failed me at any point, even at Carlisle Utd!:P Besides, the aforementioned dongles never worked at all in those grounds, so it's still much better, and works fine pre and post match.

Have you been to SJP this season? if so I may have worked with you

I have three dongles - O2, Vodafone and 3. Which one I use depends where I am. For example at Twickenham, the O2 one is by some margin the best (should be as they are title sponsors of the team!). Vodafone works well at Reading. 3 is excellent at QPR.

On 3, you can now buy a £2 credit which lasts a day. This is nice as I dont use it enough to justify £10-£15 a month. The Voda one is £15 for 30 days which is a bit of a pain.

Anyway, the secret is to have a selection so you can chop & change to suit the conditions.

I have had 3,O2 and Vodaphone and the winner is 3 by a long way. I took out a deal about 3 years ago for £15 a month, at the time it was a really good deal. I travel a lot for work and I like to be able to use my own laptop where ever I am, it has a 3g card built in so just needed the sim really.
When the 18 months were up they offered me a "free" netbook to carry on at £15 a month, it was the wrong brand ( I work for an IT company) so I deducted the retail price of the netbook from the total cost of 18 months at £15 and offered a cheeky £3 a month, we settled at £5 which worked for me. O2 never managed to get me online so I gave it back and when I really need 3G I tether my phone which is also O2 bit weird that. Vodaphone sim worked fine in my previous employers 3 g slot but 3 is the best for working everywhere.

have a look on ebay
3 sim cards with 3 months internet included for about a tenner, you just need to get a cheap dongle either a 3 one, or get any and unlock it .
after 3 months just buy another sim
