Hi

Any idea why the used price of a rx100iii has gone up?

Thank you

I'm guessing here but it may be related to the micro USB restrictions with the RX100 cameras. As of this year, Sony couldn't continue to sell the RX100V or VII in Europe because they charge over micro USB which is no longer allowed since new regulations means it has to be USB-C. Stock of the RX100V and VII seemed to dry up and in turn, the second hand prices climbed not just of those cameras but the older models too. I've been following the RX100VII closely because that's the version I was interested in, initially I think I could get a mk6 for around the £550 mark and the mk7 for the £750 mark however the prices started rising of both cameras, mk6's were more than the second hand mk7's and used mk7's were going for more than the RRP.

There is an RX100VIIA that has been listed on some sites (as well as an A6100A and an A6400A) and eagle eyed people noticed that Sony were now including a micro USB battery charger and had disabled in camera charging to get around new regulations. It seems a bit of a loophole that they can still use micro USB on an actual battery charger although I'm not sure if these cameras are actually for sale yet since a quick look shows mk7's still out of stock and still crazy second hand prices - bear in mind it has an RRP of £1050 and this second hand one is £1115:

Although the RX100mk3's have been discontinued for a while I'm assuming they're caught up with the lack of supply issue so as the newer models have seen their second hand value go up, that's also affecting the older cameras.

Hi John,

Thank you for a detailed response. I need to get rid of some of my gear and was surprised to see CEX offering around £300 for it which got me thinking why has the price gone up as opposed to down.
