Hi guys, can i have ur suggestion on what to consider if i want to buy 2nd hand 50mm 1.8D?

Not a lot really, they are a simple and very cheap lens... if it focuses and the aperture changes when on a body then great (other than the obvious scratches or dings to front and rear glass)

Check for significant internal dust. A little is normal though. Check for fungus which will look almost like cob webs on the front or rear element. Even the smallest amount will be a problem as it never gets better but can get worse. Check the aperture blades aren't sticking and that the focus ring moves freely. Erm, not a lot else to worry about really.

For the price difference of a new v used 50mm F1.8 personally I would probably buy new.

if someone sell used 1.8D to u, 50% of the market price, would u buy it? or still go for brand new? :)

What body is it to be used with Kai? If it's a body without an AF motor, you'll need an AF-S lens to AF. Older and higher end Nikon bodies have the AF motor in the body so will AF with all F mount AF lenses. Not certain which Nikons lack the motor - your manual should tell you if you don't already know.

There can be quite a price difference between a second hand screw driven lens and a new AF-S one - my old AF (predating the D series) cost me just £40 a few years ago, a new AF-S f/1.8 is £155 from WEX. Can't find a second hand price for the AF-S lens - maybe MPB have one in stock?

hehehe, then i will too!:P

FWIW, my old 50 feels much better than a brand new AF-S one. Less slack, smoother focus, positive mounting. I've been advised (by a retailer) to keep hold of it, even over a new f/1.4, since the only way in which that newer lens is better is the 1/2 stop or so of extra light grabbing.
