I'd like to buy a compact camera for my wife and I'd like to ask for your advice, please. My budget is around £200 for an used camera.
I was looking so far at Fuji x100 mk1, sony rx100 mk1, Olympus PEN PL5 or OMD10/5.
Any other suggestions, please?
Thanks a lot in advance.

She won't bother to change a lens so even if I'd buy a camera and have a choice for lenses, that would be my guilty pleasure :).

Have you asked your wife what she wants from the camera?
Features etc? Will it be in her handbag or pockets? What is she currently using.
Otherwise your just going to get 101 different suggestions from people on here.

Hi Angelo!

As Photopaque asks, what does your wife want to do with it etc.? I looked up the Olympus PEN PL5 - it's a compact system camera. That means interchangeable lenses, so if she's not interested, it's not really worth it.

Last November, I bought a new Panasonic Lumix TZ55 for about £110. It's a compact camera (without the system;))! It's fine for me at the moment, though eventually I hope to go for a CSC!

Consult wife - Good luck:)!

^ that, otherwise you're just buying a camera for your wife to carry for you.

Haha, TBH, I'm hoping to use the camera more than her :) She will have it in her handbag when goes out with the kids or for holidays. She finds my dslr too bulky and can't be bother with the settings on it. On the other hand, the AF must be quick enough as the kids aren't posing stand still for her.

X30 if the compact bit of your title is important . I have the x100t for "photography" but for family snaps with still a lot of camera control then the x30 all the way

I'll have a look at x30 as well. The best bet is to pop in a shop and try a few there. But as I was looking at used cameras, I'd guess will make it a little bit more difficult as there aren't that many shops around.

I'm a big X100 fan and a current paid up member of the Olympus owners club but I struggle to recommend either in this scenario as I just don't think of them as being all that compact. Certainly not pocketable unless you're a clown!

On that basis it's hard to look past the rx100.

No matter what compact you buy for your 'wife' you won't be happy with af speed or image quality.
You will ...sorry I mean 'she' will have to compromise on something.

A camera designed to be compact and good for pics of kids is any of the Nikon 1 series but you won't be happy with the image quality once your pixel peeping head makes an appearance.
Also the fact they can be had for around £120 refurbished for J1/J2/S1
Will also make you think they are no good in today's market.
But in a world ruled by common and financial sense this would be ideal but unfortunately we don't live in that world!

Number one on the list is rx100 and started the search for that. We won't rule something else out but that's the main choice for a compact.
