Yes
Which would be the best used to buy under £1000.00
Canon 1D
Canon 1D MK1V
Canon 7D

Any help would be appreciated.
Did look at a used 7D MK11 but to expensive
considering what else you can get for the money.

I'm looking at buying from a reputable good dealer

Thanks in advance.

Eddie.

Depends what you want to use it for.

I would say definitely the 7D mark II over the original. You can buy it used for less than £1000 as well. An 80D would also be a good shout.

Again, depends what you need it for.

Depends what you shoot, canon 5d mk2 is around £5-600, stretch it a bit more than £1000 and you can get a 5d mk3.
Take a look at mpb to get an idea of prices from dealers with warranty.

The 1D4 is a great camera if sports/wildlife are your thing as is the 7D2 (now under £1K new). If you lean more towards landscapes then a 6D, or stretch the budget a little for a new 6D2?

Also bear in mind what lenses you already have as the full frame and APSH (1D4) models will not accept EFS lenses.

Get the 7d mk 2 used for under 1000.

If you are new or don't know much stay away from the 1D cameras.

I have a 1D mk 3 and it is by far the most complicated and least user friendly camera I have ever owned and I have had dozens.

Just going though the 60 odd custom settings will give you a headache and there is no helpful simple explanations in camera. They just assume you are a pro and not a beginner.

You will be pressing buttons and wont have a clue what is going on if you get a camera too advanced for yourself.

You can just use them on default settings but then you may as well get a newer cheaper less complex camera

Thank you for your replies, I have a Canon 40D which has served well but it's getting old and want something better, as for lenses I use a canon 75-200 4-5.6 and a sigma DC 17-50 2.8 EX HSM
I like the 7D MK11 but would I get a better deal with the 1DMK1V.

I shoot Landscape and Rallying. Don't want to spend to much.

Thanks for your help

1d4 would be my choice. Great for sport, and just as good for anything else. The speed and waterproofing would do it for me.

I've had a number of Canon bodies and my favourite of them was my 1d3, if I were to go back to Canon I would go for a 1d series body over anything else.

( Went to Fuji last year )

Thank you ChrisH for your views as the 1DMK1V used is quite cheap compared to the new price it seems to be better bargain

If you're using a Canon 75-300mm, FWIW I think you might get more improvement out of a lens upgrade than you will by moving from a 40D to a 7DII or 1D4. If on the other hand you meant you have a Canon 70-200mm L, then that would be difficult to improve on for a modest spend.

When my 50D died, I considered getting a used 1D4, but went for the newer 7DII instead. Very happy with my choice. Decided I didn't want to be lugging a full sized professional body around all of the time. For Motorsport and wildlife the 7DII is a strong performer IMHO, though I do use it in combination with a Canon 100-400L IS USM II.

My other half recently got an 80D and that performed very well on safari in Zambia (as did my 7DII). She was using a borrowed Canon EF-S 55-250 IS USM. She now has a Canon 70-300mm IS USM II Nano, which has blisteringly fast focusing.

Good luck...

I have had a couple of 7D's as second bodies whilst owning a 1Div and the 1Div is far superior but it is a bit closer when comparing against the 7Dii though. A 7D mk1 can be picked up quite cheaply compared to a good 1Div but it would be a big improvement over what you have and if your budget is £1000 there would be a fair chunk left over for a lens upgrade as well. A 70-200lf4, 70-200lf2.8 even one of the various 70-300mm lenses canon do or did are all good choices. I still prefer my 1Div for motorsport and the rare times I do landscape even over my 7Dii let alone a 7D.

This thread might help as well https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/7d-mk2-or-1dmk4.670311/

There's been a 100-400 just sold on here for £510.
The ef 75-300 f4-f5.6 is ok (I had one on a 300D) but it's limiting. It's the cheapest of the canon telephotos.
The 40D limitation is the ISO range, ok for good light, but push much more over iso800 and you start getting noise. Again I went 300D, 40D, 50D, 5D mk3 with a 400D and 600D as backup bodies

So a better body would help for the lower light conditions or being able to push shutter speed. A better lens would focus faster, be a bit sharper. Both for £1k is pushing it

70-200F4 L non is perhaps, or maybe continue saving and go for the better 7D mk2

For a grand I would get an 80D (used) and spend the rest on a 70-200f4 L lens and ditch the 75-300.

You get one of Canons latest sensors with good DR, 45 point AF all cross type and the frame rate should be OK for rallying, and the touch tilt swivel screen is definitely a bonus.

Like has been said above the 1D is a pro's camera and has a steep learning curve, I tried one and it was way above my head.

Your sigma lens is a DC so is designed for APS-C sensor cameras

Thank you PINNACLE, Byker18i, canon f1.8 and mrjmt This is the Canon lens I have 75 - 300 not canon 75-200 4-5.6 typo error.
The 1DMK1V I like but it is heavier than the 7DMK11. I mostly use the Sigma lens DC 17-50 2.8 EX HSM will this fit on either camera?

Thanks to all for the replies

A quick google suggests that the 7DII has an APS-C sensor so would be fine with a sigma DC lens. The 1DIV however is a APS-H sensor which is larger than a APS-C and therefore is likely not suitable for use with a DC lens.

Thank you for that info decision made 7DMK11 it is got to find a good one.

Thanks to all that have helped.

Eddie

Good choice - very good camera and a good move up from the 40D.
