Used A9 or A7 IV?

I would be concerned about that if it was me.

Never heard of a retailer checking brand new boxed cameras before so that seem's extremely odd, definitely wasn't a practice L.C.E did the last time I purchased a body from them as I had a body arrive dead on arrival from them a couple of years ago.

...
It is something that would have been spotted when the potential customer checked the camera out in the shop, while making the purchase.
So the purchase never happened - the camera went to be repaired, while a different camera was then sold to that customer.
The extended warranty gives you a pdf copy of the 2 year warranty, with the serial number on it. If Sony did question it at a later date then I'd expect that such a document would make it difficult to claim it was not covered.

Which was it then? Was it like you said first that it failed LCE checks or that a customer noticed it?

Have a read of ther terms of the warranty. You can register any serial number you want on the Sony warranty page and it means nothing.

I remember not that long ago seeing on another photography website a few people saying they had registered there grey market cameras no problem for example then when they had an issue Sony refused to touch it as the warranty was not valid regardless of having an emailed document saying it is.

If your happy there is no problem of course. I wouldn’t be happy with the uncertainty around that. To be fair you may never have an issue that needs resolving anyway.

I’ve registered my camera bought from Panamoz with Sony UK and have received my 2 year extended warranty document but I doubt very much they’d honour any warranty work.

If Sony have issued an extended warranty document to you then you have a document stating that they cover that camera - if they then later claim that the serial number shows it isn't covered, then you have a reasonably strong case that they should not have issued the warranty document (which has the serial number on it), and so it is their problem, not yours.

I’ve not read the T’s and c’s properly tbh, but you’ve bought yours in good faith as new from a reputable retailer so I really can’t see an issue tbh, you have a really strong case to argue imo. I’m pretty well covered with the Panamoz warranty anyway (y)

It wasn't something we discussed - it's an assumption on my part that is was the checks made in-store by the customer, as that fits with my experience of buying a camera / lens, and their description of the fault being discovered in-store.
Regarding the warranty - I was unsure where the camera woudl stand on this, so did explicitly ask, and was assured that it would be covered by both the initial and extended warranties.

Note that Southampton LEC is a 'Sony Alpha Centre of Excellence', so has a closer than normal relationship with Sony UK - LCE also run a number of Sony sponsored events - camera / lens demo days, etc, so I would not be surprised if they in fact are supplied directly by Sony UK, rather than via a distributor.

Sony don’t sell direct to retail everything goes direct through distribution companies no matter who the retailer is. Well in the U.K anyway.

Just checked the extended warranty and it states bought within the Uk and Ireland (y)

So the A7 IV is ordered....hopefully delivered tomorrow. A weekend shoot is deffo on the cards now!
You will love it but give yourself time to get used to it.

Well it aint happening this weekend. MPB had 'technical issues' yesterday and didnt say a word to customer via email so I've cancelled the order out of principal due to lack of comms.
I get there can be issues but job 1 is to be open and transparent about and the issues and communicate accordingly.

The problems didnt spill over into the order and taking of payment process but it would have been nice to know that these issues were live and delivery impacting when I was placing my order. This is exactly my area of day to day work so know how easy it to implement such systems and the fact they have not is just lazy as is a lack of email confirmation upon cancellation only having the customer service rep assurance that its happened.

It rings of legacy or under utilised solutions tech to me. Guess I'm looking elsewhere now.

Seen a few reports about MPB not sending out orders or dealing with items sent to them recently, i'd be very cautious about dealing with them at the moment.

Seems a trend at the moment, I sent my camera into cameraworld earlier this week and hadn't heard anything, emailed to find out what's happening and they apologised saying they've had a sudden influx of used gear come in and there's a backlog.

To be fair it's only Thursday, the MPB issues seem to relate to much longer timescales.

Yeah I'm impatient ;) Normally though I get an email to say it's arrived and that it's being processed and will be back in touch when it's completed (y)

Depends on how slow your shutter is when panning, but if you do slow shutter pans (1/50 and slower) blackout free shooting causes an EVF lag and almost slideshow effect and you may prefer to switch to mechanical shutter anyway. Anything above that, and especially 1/125 and above it’s a none issue.

I've never heard of this, worried I'm going to notice it on Monday now! 95% of my panning is below (often waaaay below) 1/50 and the a9 has been an absolute revelation, I've shot maybe 50k panning shots with mine in every condition imaginable (bright sun, middle of the night at Le Mans) and I could never bring myself to switch on the mechanical shutter or move to a different body now.

I've noticed some very odd break up of images at absurdly slow speeds once or twice panning with the ES, but they seemed to be isolated incidents at one event so it's not something I dwell on.

Odd, it was very noticeable on my A9II which I’d have thought was better than the A9. The A1 has a special setting for this reason in which it adds blackouts to the electronic shutter below 1/60 to keep the image smooth.

So either your eyes are really bad, you have a brain that magically compensates, or you’ve found a setting that I never did that minimises the effect

I'll look out for it on Monday, but I'd like to go with option 2 'brain that magically compensates' please :)

You don’t need to look, it’s blatant (y)

Well happy to report that I'm now an A7 IV owner thanks to the superb service that is Harrisons Camera's.
Ended up going for brand new over used given that with Sony's £200 off code at the minute it was only £200 more to go brand new....now just needs to stop down pouring from the sky so I can continue to fail completely at getting any decent wildlife shots...

Cool, enjoy. Are you local to Harrison’s? They’re my nearest camera store these days since LCE closed in my town.
