Any recommendations for a usb (3?) WiFi dongle. I'm looking into buying a new (used pc) and one I'm interested in doesn't have WiFi. I could take the card or if my old pc, but there doesn't look like there's a lot of room in the new one to fit the card in. The motherboard is this one MSI B450. There is a blanked off area under the graphics card, but I don't know what's under that.

I tried a few USB ones, but they were mostly crap and wouldn't give a reliable signal on anything over about 10MBs.

It looks like you could fit a network card in there easily enough. I'm currently using this 'little' one and for the price, it's pretty good and has never dropped out on me once (running at 150MBs) in the last nine months since I bought it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/your-account/order-history/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search?opt=ab&search=wifi

The BT connection comes in handy too. :)

I currently and always mostly use Netgear adaptors, I prefer the ones on an extension lead thus allowing to position for signal strength - IMHO have a close look at this one !

Also available from a range of suppliers - simply using this an example - NOT a recommendation on supplier

Of course everyone will have their own experience, I currently use a old Netgear WNA1100, it matches my BB max speed with no issues and I have 3 solid brick walls between me and the router. Having the USB extension lead will help enormously as an adaptor plugged into the PC has to contend with all the noise generated with only itself as an antenna.

A better picture and exact model on Motherboard would help with advice. (Turn the PC off and use a flash)

Thanks for the replies. After googling the motherboard and looking at the images, it seems I should be able to fit a card on the board.

I don't have this pc, in just looking at buying one. The photo is a screenshot from the advert :).

I've used a Netgear USB WiFi dongle for a few years without problem.
Prior to that a BT dongle which had a hiccup after 3 or 4 years!

PS. Our BB speed at the hub is around 30Mbps and via an extender and dongle my PC gets about 20Mbps plus which I find more than enough.

I've used a cheap Tenda usb dongle (w311u) for years with desktops - fast enough for streaming a movie.

The blanked off area under the graphics card is for an NVME drive, and the blanking plate is the heatsink.
