My new action camera comes with a USB c to USB c lead, my computer only has USB a anyone recomend a data adaptor, computer shops near me are in short supply and dont have one. It's for downloading the files,

I'd probably suggest a hub from Amazon with mixed ports, so you can plug in a variety of different accessories.

You need an A to C lead not an adapter. For data transfer make sure it’s a USB 3 one. Anker, ugreen or amazon basics all are ok.

You can’t adapt an A port into a C port and be compliant with the spec, for long and boring reasons I won’t bother with here unless asked. So the adapters do exist but there’s lots of ways they can go wrong or not work as expected. Just get the correct cable.

Edit: to be clear an A to C cable is “legal” but A to C port is not.

I use "A to C" and "C to A" adapters for all sorts of reasons, which I buy from Amazon in packs of three. They're inexpensive and neat...

There's also a very nifty card reader for full size and Micro SD cards, with a "A" plug at one end and a "C" plug at the other. Worth considering if you're using multiple computers with different sockets (and it fits in any pocket)...

Personally I wouldn't bother will adaptors, just buy a C-A lead, I've a couple and the work just fine.

Edit: If you've recently bought a new mobile phone (last few years) check there's not one in the box (I know google pixels come with one) you can then use your A-A cable.
