Urgent, video/camcorder needed for weekend

Not sure if anyone can help me on this one!!!

I need to beg borrow buy or steal a camcorder for using this weekend.

It needs to be a pretty heavy duty one to record up to an hour at a time so pretty decent batteries would I imagine be needed? Also needs to be simple to use!!!

I've looked online but I'm just confusing myself with the different ones, Jessops are about the same price as PC World - but which is likely to give me the best advice, aaaagh this is not easy!!


Any ideas please, I'm out soon but will be back online tonight so I'm not ignoring any replies!!
I can get to London, or am heading up the M1 on Friday
 
where do you live

mini dv camcorders will have 60 or 90 minute tapes, the problem will be the battery, most supplied batteries are only good for 30 minutes to an hour at most, less if you're zooming and using the pull out viewfinder

argos have a hybrid camcorder which combines a 8Gb Hard disc and a dvd recorder so you can record onto the HD then burn a dvd in the camcorder if you want to distribute the video easily £220

Thanks for that, I'm in Essex but heading northwards to Derbyshire + Yorkshire via Oxon/Bucks borders for the weekend.
I am hoping one of my friends may have an old one I can borrow - if a) she can find it and b) it has a battery and charger that works!! Sounds as if I was right about the battery being the problem, I wonder if it will plug into the mains or something :thinking: would save battery power as I think I will need to be zooming a fair bit.

I thought new ones were a bit more expensive than my bank balance allowed, but if a few of us got together it may be possible :shrug:
 
I have a Sony DCR-HC22E Pal Handycam, prob 2-3 years old. Last time I used it was In Africa this time last year! The battery is still full and I could charge up the spare. I also have some unused tapes. I live in Hampton,Middlesex.

Thanks very much for the offer, thats very generous. Jen has found hers and is charging the batteries now, so hopefully I am sorted :D
