If you rather do close-up work than distance shots, go for it. But you will also need a tripod and light for your macro photos. For light you would ideally get a ringlight. Those are expensive, though. And you have just spent your dough on a new EF-S 60mm f2.8 USM Macro Lens... So maybe you want to try going the D-I-Y route:

I love the L lens but im just not using it you see, its criminal really. Im always doing macro and I have all the passion for close ups, but not the same for tele shots.

I thought about the 100mm but 60mm seems nice for the price.

Thanks inaneredstripe :)

And if you want your macro photos with tacksharp DoF from front to back, all the way, you can now apply the 'HDF' technique (High Dynamic Focus). From the same palet as HDR(I), really.

I am totally confused and the fun is fast fading. I want a macro lens, I want a good lens but I dont have much more than £300.

Sigma 105 or the Canon 60mm both f2.8 im dis-heartened :(

I have the Sigma 70mm macro lens and it's an awesome lens, so I can second what inaneredstripe says! :)

I have the canon 60mm which i hardly use at all if you want to trade + cash for the 70-200 pm me,
yours GWH

If I was in your shoes if you don't do a deal with gwh I would go for the Sigma 105mm (onestop has both at roughly the same price), you will find the extra focal length handy, there is no questions on IQ on any of the macro lenses as they all produce superb IQ without any noticable difference between the various manufacturers, you can get by with a standard hotshoe flash of make your own diffuser for the popup flash, a ringflash is not essential for a standard macro lens.
I don't know what type of macro you want to do, but if it's insects a tripod certainly isn't essential either, I have never used a tripod for any of my macro shooting.
Whichever you go for you won't be dissapointed

Thanks guys & gals,

As per my other thread here, I went for the Sigma 105mm Macro. Will be posting the results of the trial run tonight!!
