Edit My Images
Yes
It's just taken two hours to upload four images (out of 14) to Photobox. Each image is between 8Mb and 12Mb. Should it take this long?

Any suggestions? Please!

I use ftp to upload mine. I uploaded 18 last night.. 8mb each .... in about 15 mins.

Just trying again, but the first image is 14.5MB and it's estimating 54 minutes to upload! I don't think my connection is running that slow.

I had some images I tried to send there last week. First time using them. Took ages, then just kept hanging.
I ended up using apples print store (with aperture) took no time at all. Was a bit more expensive but the quickness worked for me. Uploaded sunday, delivered tuesday, even with a post strick (which I can't work out how they got here so quick).

Janice, I couldn't work out how their FTP worked.

Just tried via FTP - four 12Mb images estimated at 1 hour 21 minutes.

holy hell!

might be worth just checking your connection, just to eliminate it

Already done that. Download 1.8Mbps, upload 0.2Mbps.

What program did you use to upload via ftp?

If you Windows Explorer/IE then try again with something like CoreFTP as Windows is very poor at ftp transfers.

Used the link that you suggested - results came out at 1644kbps which rated it as pretty darn good.

I expect that is your download speed though. The upload speed will be quite a bit less. But even using the 0.2Mbps that you quoted earlier only gives about 10 minutes to upload a 12Mb file.

been really slow uploading via the java applet for me too lately.

If it is uploading at 0.2 Mbps then wouldn't it only take 60 seconds to upload 12Mb? Or isn't it that easy

Used FTP to upload some pics tonight. All fairly low res but they zipped through quite happily and appeared in the album almost straight away.

Too easy - your upload speed is in MegaBITS but the file size is in MegaBYTES.

Your upload speed is somewhere around 256 megabits per second - 8 bits in a byte so that's 32 kilobytes per second. 1024 kb in a megabyte so a 12mb file would take (12*1024)/32=384 seconds or about 5 mins.

You beat me to it. I got ten minutes by allowing for about a 25% system overhead which gave a throughput of around 20kBYTES persecond. So as you said a 12MBYTE file would take (12*1024)/20 = 614 seconds or about ten minutes.

its upload that matters, 10 mins for a 12mb file is about right and thats if its working at peak, if its not then it will take longer.

Maybe ive got the wrong end of the stick but why are you uploading such large file sizes as that. I was having problems submitting to alamy and a guy on his website showed me how to resize for them. I was doing it all wrong. Change pixel size first without resample clicked and then use percentage to move it up to the size you want. Usually on alamy the actual print size is no more than 18x12 or so inches at 300 dpi giving a file size of about 2.5 meg in jpeg.

If I have got it wrong then please feel free to tell me-coz re sizing is so blooming tricky with so many different ways to do it.
