Hi everyone.

I am upgrading my D90 camera body. My uses are general, family, city, street etc. Normally coupled to either a Nikon 50mm 1.8 or an 18-200VR.

Does anyone use the new D7500 and could you share your brief impressions of the camera please ?

Also, how good.bad is Snapbridge as a utility ?

Thanks in advance.

The D7500 is a fanstatic Camera,
I had a D3200 for around 5 years and decided it was time to upgrade,
Friends of mine have the D7200 and the D500,
It took a while to decide on what I wanted to invest in,
Originally I thought the D7200 as I’ve seen and tried my friends,
But I decided to go straight in for the D7500 with it being the newer latest model,
Having not spent anything on a camera since the D3200 I thought it was only sensible to invest in something that’s the latest one, that way it will last me again hopefully ( my opinion anyway ),
Got mine on the 21st December and used it a fair few times up to now,
I only like to do photography at night,
Fantastic bit of kit it really is, has the same sensor and innards as the D500, basically a smaller D500 without the added few extras,
Few will have their own say regarding only one sd card slot etc.., but how many times does your sd card fail to warrant the second slot ?,
Overall mine takes mint images in low light,
With either a Nikon 35mm F1.8, or even my Tamron SP 10-24mm,
As for the snapbridge I did connect it up to my phone and have a bit play with it, works really well,
Haven’t used it very much yet so can’t give comprehensive experience,
All the above is my own opinion of my experience,
I’d say if it’s what you have your heart set on then you won’t be disappointed with it,
Hope that helps,

Fairly new here myself so if I knew how to upload an image I’d upload a couple of night shots using the said camera.

Thanks Liam, that's very helpful indeed. I too am wrestling with D7500 vs D7200 vs D500. Your shots look fantastic too and show of the camera really well.

My thoughts for what its worth.

It comes down to how much of the cameras features you will use.

I think the d500 is complete overkill for most people.
10 fps is great if you need to compete with other photographers all trying to catch that special shot to sell to a newspaper or whatever.
Tough body, faster cards an option ( expensive for good ones I here ) more durable shutter 200K instead of 150K.
For average joe 10 fps is not great, there are too many files, too many bad shots, longer to deal with, harder to store or sort through etc...

Now the d7500, still very good for sport, amazing metering system, 8 fps very good buffer.
Not so good for a pro, body not as tough, only one card slot, not as good AF system overall.
For average joe one card slot not such a big deal, tough enough and can handle sports duties easily.

The d7200, pro wont tough it.
Average joe loves it, good price, good images, tough enough, fast enough, good enough for sports, does everything he wants and has 2 card slots, easy to sell on and not too complicated.

Thank you - all thoughts are valued. I'm with you that the D500 is overkill, certainly for my uses. The new metering system does look like a big step up on the D7500 and like the look of the electronic curtain.

Another thing to note is the 7200 has an iso button on the lower left on the back of the body ( I hate it there ) and you can make the little record button do it near the shutter button.
The 7500 has its primary iso button near the shutter button but I think it is larger and better placed than using the tiny awkwardly placed record button on the 7200.

I’ve pondered this question a few times and think I would go with the D7500 as dual card slots aren’t actually that important to me, one of my cameras has dual slots and I only ever use one slot.

The other features of the D7500 far outweigh the minor benefits of dual slots.

Some more great points - thank you GTG and Ned :)

The D7500 is looking like the choice and maybe the 35mm 1.8 too

I take this back. My d7200 turned up today and the record button is in the ideal place. Just move the finger slightly backwards off the shutter, it is more raised up than normal so you cant miss it and don't need to look.

Just hold it down and use the rear command dial to change ISO.

I would have got the 7500 though if I could afford it

Get the d500 better all round camera. At least you have all the extra options available should you ever need them.

If you have been considering it and can avoid it. its a no brainer to me.

I would get the 7200 and concentrate more on lenses. Pretty significant price differences, you could look to some used 1.4 primes with that extra cash

Thanks guys - always good to get varied perspectives. I have some 1.8 primes already and these work well for me - am needing just to get backout there this year and these will work well for that.

Once the mojo is restored and I find what I like doing again (same or different), then lenses will be the next step.
