The current cycle of hardware and software upgrades is becoming silly, one of my colleagues has a Mac book pro late 2015 it will not upgrade past 10.11.x and as such will not run the latest photoshop, you would expect photoshop to run on a I5 with 16gb of ram that's just about 5 years old would you not ?
The upgrade cycle where software is upgraded to to run on the latest hardware, then the hardware is upgraded to run the latest software is seeing the life time of computers being massively shortened.

Wow, really? Surprised as my late 2013 imac was on catalina and latest CC, there weren't reports of dropping support. Would think a 2015 would have at least 2-3 years left.

I agree it is ridiculous but do you need the latest version.

Isn’t the MacBook Pro 15 inch 2015 listed as compatible with Catalina OS 10.15?

I’ve got a 2013 MacBook Pro 13 inch and that’s offered an OS upgrade. So far I haven’t updated it because there is an issue with the Citrix software I use for working at home. That means I can’t update to the latest LR software.

Is the issue is that it’s running 10.11 El Capitan and it can’t jump straight to 10.15 Catalina? Can it be updated to another mid OS like Sierra then onto Catalina?

Do these links help you?

Me too, it says it needs 10.15.x to run.

We have A lot of CC licences so my colleague wanted to do some work at home, made sence to simply use one of our seats. Not sure you can install an earlier version through CC?

Maybe contact apple support, that machine seems way to recent to not have catalina.

Am surprised as my late 2015 mbp is currently running 10.14 and runs the latest version of CC without issue. You can install older versions of the applications of CC, as I keep an old photoshop version, but this will not run under 10.15 so I have not upgraded yet.

I don’t think the issue is photoshop saying it needs Catalina OS 10.15 to operate, it’s the fact you don’t seem to be able update a MacBook Pro 15 inch 2015 to the latest OS even though it should be compatible.

+1, sounds like it needs a wipe and recovery.

My little Mac Mini late 2012 can get the upgrade althogh I do not wish to do so. I suggest there is something wrong with your friends Macbook, what is the reason he cannot upgrade, there must be some message whilst trying to do so.

My mid2012 MBP is running 10.13.6 High Sierra. I could upgrade to 10.15.3 Catalina if I wanted (I don't) and is running the most recent version of Photoshop CC 2020.
This thread is a little weird, not only should the MacBook Pro 15 inch 2015 be compatible with the latest OS Catalina you’re right that Photoshop Nov 2019 is compatible with High Sierra 10.13, Mojave 10.14 and Catalina 10.15.

I will tell her to ask apple, it says it is fully up date with no updates available, and appears stuck at 10.11.

you guys just need to go to windows 10 and stop clowning around with apple

No, real men use George3 but it won't run on a MBP...:exit:

Nowt to do with hardware or software it’s purely Apples built in obsolescence and or model differentiation. A financial decision to annoy customers.

Fortunatly no such shenanigans with pc. You can run latest photoshop on any old pc (assuming of course it’s up to the job).

The latest version of photoshop can run on high seirra which is compatible with a 2009 MacBook. 10 years on a 2009 MacBook is still able to run the latest photoshop version. To me that’s not bad, getting 10 years life running the latest versions of software.

I guess apple are making the decision on whether they feel their hardware is up to the job of running the latest OS rather than the Mac owner whereas it’s down to PC owner if their hardware is up to the job. I get your point PC are a little more open on that point. I do get the apple obsolescence argue but 10 years life on technology seems pretty good to me.

It’s weird we get argumentative over macs and PC yet dont see it the opposite way around. Is 2009 photoshop compatible with a 2019 camera? Shouldn’t Adobe provide on going support for new cameras on previous versions otherwise you’re being force to upgrade the software to continue camera compatibility.

By the way I’m not trying to get into a PC v Mac argument as that’s been done to death just the various camera manufacturers who’s best debates.

Agreed, another thing, I have been paying Adobe for every release since 2003 (most of their software titles!), I had to jump through flaming hoops to get them to extend their rubbish 7 day trial for me the other night, I was blessed with an additional 7 days. I am really grateful.

Their business model is becoming increasingly annoying.

Or Even George2, count in Octal.

ICL1904 back then, 30MB and 60MB removeable Disks.Core memory, just flick the run switch to carry on after a weekend not on shift.

Those were the days.

@seaodyssey Me too, and Univac 1106 with 36-bit words, octal, fixed disc OS, tapes for data and program loading
