Yes
I have the chance to purchase a cheap Opteron 185 (2600 dual core) from a colleague but I'm not sure if the trouble is worth it.

Can anyone confirm whether there will be much of a difference from my current Athlon 64 3500+?

Tried hunting for a comparative review but every review seems to be a short two liner on a price comparison site nowadays :(

TIA

Unless you actually need a faster machine, what's the point? There are much better things to spend your money on!

Very true... just thinking of Warhammer Online :bat: Oh and of course whether CS2 will be quicker.

You may even find that it is actually SLOWER in a number of cases, than the computer you already have. Most software only uses ONE core. Yes CS2 will use 2 BUT you do not get a doubling of speed and the processor you are using is about the same speed in one core mode. It will certainly not be significantly faster most of the time!! You will get more of a benefit upgrading your RAM and spending your money on something else!

I have quad Xeon processors in my computer and in most cases you cannot really see much of a difference to a core 2 duo machine. (I use CS3 with photoshop quite a bit and even this doesn't feel much faster MOST of the time - you can see differences when you go into liquify or something like that but you wouldn't miss the difference!)

OK you've talked me out of it. Just I haven't spent a thing on my PC in a very long time and it's feeling neglected :'(

Will save the £100 for the new lens
