Upgrade to FX?

Hi All,

I've had a D60 for 3 years now and I feel like its time to upgrade. Although I love this camera it's annoying having to go into the menu's to change stuff like metering/shooting options etc. It is also incompatible with the older lenses.

I have the 18 - 200mm DX, 35mm DX and an SB600. I'm enjoying my prime lenses and I would really like to get a fast wide angle as sometimes I feel the 35mm is a bit long on the DX.

i thought about getting the 24mm or 20mm f2.8 D lenses to achieve this, which would necessitate a D90 or D7000, but then I thought is it just worth waiting a bit and jumping straight to FX? Maybe a smaller D700 is on the cards?

Anyway your thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

I think your budget must dictate which way you go. FX will mean a new suite of lenses; so can you afford them as well a new body? On the other hand, a DX upgrade will mean you can use all your present lenses and also non-AF-S lenses with the option of using them on an FX body at your next upgrade (or on a second body).

Having looked at the two DX models you mention - the D90 and the D7000 - I'd go for the D7000 as it's a newer model and at the top of the DX range. Have a read of this. However, a used D90 may be a cheaper option.

Just some food for thought ... yours,

Bob

Yes the D7000 does looks awesome. I also like the fact that it is only marginally bigger than the D90.
