Hi, I've been using this lens since I first bought a Nikon D80 many years ago. It's been a good all round walkabout lens and served well. I've upgraded recently to a 7200 and I've been analyzing my results and they don't look as sharp at the longer end and I'm wondering if there's a better alternative/upgrade I should consider?

Happy to consider non Nikon lenses.

I also have a 35mm 1.8g and Sigma 10-20mm.

Thanks

In the same super-zoom focal range the 18-200 is still more or less as good as it gets on DX so you may have to consider a compromise on focal length.

The Nikon 28-300 is very nice but it's designed for full frame and doesn't really go wide enough for a general purpose on DX.

If you're happy with the 10-20 as the short end, the obvious top end upgrade would be the 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 pairing. A cheaper and shorter single lens option would be the 24-120 f/4 Nikkor. If you want/need to upgrade the short end as well, the Nikkor 14-24 is hard to beat, with the Sigma 12-24 being the budget option (better corrected for actual distortion than the 10-20 but still gives "distinctive" perspectives!)

Food for thought as I'm not sure I'm getting much use from the 10-20 and if I also sell the 18-200 I can put the money towards a 70-200 f/2.8 and keep the 35mm for close range portraits.

I do like the flexibility of the range of focal length with the 18-200 but I'll have to make some sacrifices as money is an object!
