Considering the move above but honestly seen conflicting reviews on how ‘worth’ doing this would be?

Any thoughts on the switch?

General photography use and mix of Panasonic/Olympus lenses already

It's hard to say depending on your needs but to be honest I think the EM1 MkII is the best value Olympus by far.

Yes I own one and I simply cannot fault it for size, weight, ergonomics, simple photography and so many options beyond the simple.

That would be my recommendation.

I have both the GX9 and the EM1ii. Both give excellent IQ. The Panasonic has a small viewfinder, but also a smaller form factor. More suited to prime lenses. EM1 has excellent viewfinder, and is more ergonomic. If I were to sell one, it would be the Panasonic.

Thanks for the thoughts, I guess my struggle is whether it’s worth a £900+ spend to replace what was a £550 spend 3 years ago when the general specs do not seem vastly different between the two or am I missing something?

Only genuine differences seem to be detailed as bigger sensor and better lower light performance otherwise it’s an almost identical spec list as far as I can tell

The E-M5iii is very nice if the smaller EVF is acceptable. It is very different to the E-M1ii and much smaller. It does not have to be £900 btw. I keep considering selling mine as I have 2 E-M1ii bodies.

Thinking of the EM5 iii as well (or the EM1 iii with the 17mm offer) and see that Amazon UK have the black body with the 14-150mm lens for £850 on their Black Friday deal.

Tempting but I do like the metal body and 'feel' of the EM1 iii. More reading and research required methinks but that does look like a cracking deal

I’ve owned and used a g80/85 ,G9 ,omd1-mki,mkii ,mkiii the mkiii is the superior camera in every way . But at the end of the day it’s your choice .

Never had a 5 series but it’s the latest spec

I have had all of those too plus a G90 and GX9.
If i took everything into account including cost and build quality my vote would have to go to the G9.

Echoed. I’ve still got a G95, G100, GH5 EM5 ii and em1 ii and of those I’d say the G9 overall comes on top.

They should be the same size or do you mean more megapixels?

I've always gone for Panasonic for their less retro and more utilitarian unobtrusive look but I doubt there's much if anything in it performance or image quality wise between similar generation cameras from the two brands. With MFT I prefer the RF styled cameras as doing away with the EVF hump makes them seem more compact.

Thanks for the feedback/opinion too.

I can't really add much :D but I do have a 20mp Panasonic GX9 and a 16mp GX80 and I see no real image quality difference between them, I know some do but I wouldn't include the mp count as too much of a factor when looking at new kit. Having said that even if the 20mp sensor isn't significantly better (and some say it is) I suppose it's better in that the extra 4mp come with no negative impact on image quality.

I did this, bought a GX80 3 years ago. (y)

I decided on the GX80 over the GX9 because of its 16mp sensor. Someone convinced me it was better for the M43 size: "bigger pixels are better than smaller". Hmmm I don't know, but I'm well pleased with my GX80. I use it for street type shots mostly.

I've often thought, when I move to the country, branch out to doing wildlife, I'll keep the GX80 and get a bigger G something body for a bigger lens.

I once bought a G7 thinking it'd handle better than the RF styled cameras with bigger lenses but to be honest I don't think it makes any difference. Other people may feel differently but I'm happy enough with the GX80 or GX9 with 100-400mm fitted as, as usual, my right hand will be holding the camera and my left will be under the lens at about the point of balance to operate the rings if needed and I don't have any handling problems.

I do like the extra dedicated controls and tilting EVF of the GX9 but to be honest I use the GX80 more probably because of inverse snobbery as it's the cheaper camera. I usually have an Olympus 17mm f1.8 on the GX9 and either the 45-150mm or 100-400mm on the GX80.
