Hi guys, I'm new to this forum but you were so helpful last time I thought I'd ask for your help again.

I currently have a Nikon D40 with 18-55 lens and 55-200 lens both Nikon.
I mainly shoot cars, car shows etc but lately have been getting into architecture/scenery.

I've been thinking about buying another lens for my camera.
I was thinking of getting a wide angle lens capable of f2 or there abouts.

Firstly do you think this would be a good addition to my kit?
If not what would you recommend? But if so what make and lens would you recommend? And what size?
I'm not worried about buying something other than Nikon.

The other thing is, instead of buying another lens would it be worth me selling my camera and kit and putting the lens money in and upgrading to a better body? I would quite like to stay Nikon for this.

Thanks

I have the Nikon D40, plus the 18-55mm and the 55-200 (sigma though, not nikon.)

I'd recommend the Sigma 10-20mm. I do not know of many wide angle lenses that are wide open (f2 etc) but if you want that I'd recommend a nifty fifty, or a thrifty 35mm.

About 50% of my photos on my flickr are with the sigma 10-20, it's a highly talked about lens.

The lens I have is: "Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6"

A few things to note about that lens you linked on Ebay, I don't think it will auto focus on the D40 as it doesn't have an internal focusing motor.

Also, why do you want a wide aperture so much? (f2) For most architecture and scenery work a tripod will be used and preferably a medium aperture (f8 - f11) to get a nice sharp shot.

True just wanted the aperture that low for some car show shots, focusing the car more and blurring out the other show goers.

Just had a look at the sigma 10-20mm lens I like the look and sound of it.

I would suggest Tokin 12-24mm F4 II. It is motorised so you can use it on your D40.

I have the previous no motor version. It really works on architectural photographies. It is nearly impossible to have f2 on extra-wide range lens.

Wigster's on the money here.

Ultra-wides don't go as low as f/2. I don't see the need anyway.

Get the Sigma. The Tokina is an option, but doesn't go as wide, so what's the point?

The Nikon 10-24 is bound to be the best but loads more money.

Cool thank you very much.

Looks like the sigma's the winner!
