Hi guys,

My Dad and I are hoping to go to quite a few BTCC and BSB races this year and he is particularly keen to get shots with groups of bikes racing rather than single bike shots, we both have from 17mm to 300mm lenses so were wondering which tracks are best on the calendar from a normal visitors point of view are best for this type of shot, we will definitely be going to Brands and Thruxton.

thanks

300mm should be ample for most tracks.Can't comment on brands and thruxton.

1. silverstone only chance to get above fencing at hairpin.

2.cadwell some amazing shots with great air time. not best pic though.

have a look in the motorsport section for other examples

I have only ever been to Brands and Silverstone before, but I assume that fencing is the biggest issue at most tracks?

Not at tracks like Mallory Park, and Oulton Park you can get close to the action at those. Donington has high fences around it.

I,ve been to Cadwell, Mallory, Donnington, Oulton and Silverstone and found Silverstone a pain mainly because its flat and you can't get above the fencing and the stands are too far away. All the other tracks offer some sort of banking to give an elevated view close to the action. I'm going to a couple of track days for some practice, its usually free entry for spectators ever thought of trying that. Also its hard to get a good spot on race days so practice and qualifying the day before offer the best results. you can spend to much time on race day trying to get some good shots and end up missing the fun of the race.

yeah the track day option is a good idea to have a scout about.

I normally shoot on practice/qualy days and occasionally on race day but tend to enjoy watching it more on the race day unless something BIG happens

Cool, which tracks are you more likely to get the group shots i.e 2 or more bikes, I know this is dependant on the racing but are there tracks where this is more likely and the racing is naturally closer?

I like the grid and first lap action for tightness.

:lol::lol::lol: Mallory

not had a problem at Donington, Croft, Cadwell, Knockhill, sometimes put on the 1.4x just incase but found 300mm very easy to use

From my experience, Silverstone, Brands and Donington can be difficult for fences. Rockingham is by far the worst as the entire infield section is enclosed in a single fence area. Mallory park is the easiest, but Oulton and Cadwell have good fence-free views too.

Rockingham:razz: Only seen on TV for BSB many moons ago infield was terrible to watch on TV must have been impossible from stands. What type of motorsport do the have without the mainstream stuff:shrug:
