For some time Ihave been having a small problem when pushing the start button on my computer. I have had to push it several times before it would power up. First thought was the connection from the switch to the motherboard had worked loose so unplugged checked and put the connection plug back. Already tested the switch
This didn't fix the problem, so next step was to check the startup program in windows 7 , all settings looked ok, so this by now had me confused as to what it might be.

Just before I posted this the mouse packed up,ie no light on it and no cursor movement on the screen. Tried it in a couple of USB ports still dead ad a dodo. Got another spare mouse out and plugged it in and the computer seems to switch on with no problem. So somehow it looks as if the now fail mouse had an affect on how the computer started up

So something to watch out for if it happens on your computer,

Looks like a failing power supply

Don't think so as it is a AX 750 one and using a different mouse the computer starts ok. That PU is more than ample to handle twice the load put on it. If it had only been a 350 w one then maybe I would agree with you.
I of course could be completely wrong

Many many years ago I did some tech support for PC World (don't shoot me) and there was a known issue with one of the Packard bell PC's where the front USB ports would prevent the PC from powering up. Basically something inside the ports were shorting out. Disconnecting the ribbon cable and eventually replacing them sorted the problem.

You may have an issue with something inside the mouse or even the cable that could be shorting out.

I had a similar problem ages ago and it turned out to be the mouse... you could try it in a different port.

Another possibility if it's a fairly old MB the Cmos battery could be dying, try replacing that.

Ordered an AX760 pu, should be here this afternoon, the computer is 4/5 years old since we built it and in use every day. Further more on the switching on I now have to sometimes use the PU switch to get the computer to power up. Having read up on the AX750 there have been a few issues posted on different forums that members also have had problems with it. Hopefully it will be a straight swap without having to rewire to components in the board

OK AX760 PU now installed and problem solved. Shut down and started up several times and worked every time in short succession.
