Unoccupied house insurance

You're probably best going to a broker and discussing it face to face if you can. The big thing seems to be that virtually all policies have a requirement that the property be checked every 60 days, so that means having someone trustworthy to do it. I'm guessing there'll be a requirement to have it heated during the winter or else the water system fully drained down.

I would imagine it would not be cheap as even if no valuables there is a risk of vandalism, squatting, flooding etc which would not apply to owner occupied homes.

When I had an unoccupied flat I inherited a couple of years ago I used a broker called Woodstock who specialise in nonstandard home insurance. The insurance company they got me a policy with was Ocado.
The main conditions they had were that the property was inspected at least once every 30 days and high enough quality locks on the doors and windows.

We used Towergate Insurance, much cheaper than the quote from Aviva who were insuring the occupied house.

A friend really struggled to get unoccupied cover at a reasonable price. He asked the insurers what "unoccupied" actually meant, bought himself a sleeping bag and spent a night at the house every 3 weeks.
