I like the processing on this Geoff. The brickwork in the old building looks great. Did you use an artistic filter?

hi ladysue
thanks for the input without the bridge camera joke:)

i did the colour one using oloneo photoengine and played around with values to lighten shadows and bring out detail...they call it detail size and detail threshold
i am not sure on the theory but just move the sliders till i think its ok

the black to white is from the original untouched using silver efex pro and it also has some detail control...its called structure on that software..

all in all its a bit like drawing or painting the pixels into a mix one likes...and then checking its ok in a blow up since there are nasties that creep in if you exceed the originals latency

i keep on trying and now and again a good one turns up...i am told not all shots are good for hdr...but nearly all are ok on b>w...within reason
cheers

I like the angle and the composition - great sense of perspective with the bridge reaching overhead and sweeping away into the shot. And I definitely prefer the colour one - even with the slight slant.

Although it's not "in your face HDR", comparing it to the mono conversion of the original you can really see how you've pulled some of the details out of the shadows.
The limited colour palette works well too. The blue in the sky and blue detail in the bridge seem to hold the b/g and foreground together and the red in the boat is almost a perfect match for the red in the coat of arms.

And not a bridge camera joke in sight!!!
