Unbranded replacement batteries

My spare D80 non genuine battery off eBay out performed my genuine battery for a while. After about 10 months it was suffering pretty badly, it'd suddenly go flat while showing 40% or something. Now a full charge gives me 5 - 10 shots.

If you do a search around these parts, 7dayshop batteries have a good rep, and people have been using them for years without problems. Bear in mind that the OEM versions of the batteries aren't actually made by Nikon, Canon, etc, but by a third-party manufacturer on behalf of the big companies. Therefore, although there are dodgy after-market bands out there, I'm quite happy with my 7dayshop ones :thumbs:
 
Ive got two of the offbrand ones for the d60, they are just as good as the nikon ones, even if they do drop charge towards the end of the life its not like they are expensive, i got two for 12 quid
 
I bought an unbranded battery for my Canon Vid camera a while back, it was about as much use as a back pocket on a sock and failed 3rd day in after full charge miserably on holiday in NY
The branded repalcement cost me twice as much over there.
Should have gone and got the branded one in the first place.

Thank you all. I suspect I'll go and get a couple of these 7dayshop batteries - at this price I can afford four before I'm touching the price of a single official Nikon one.

Another question - this time regarding lens cleaning - what is the best solution for lens/sensor and rear LCD cleaning? Can one lens pen be suitable? And if so, which of the ones available on 7dayshop (or at a similar <£10 price range) are best? They have this Lenspen DigiKlear and this Hama one.
 
Not with the Nikon but have bought a few for my Canons, although dont last quite as long perhaps but still going strong after 2 1/2 years now
 
I'd be careful, i bought a D300 replacement batt and it wouldnt work at all. Admittedly it was from a certain auction site. :)
 
Not had a problem with 7dayshop branded batteries in my D70. Sounds like e-bay ones are probably best avoided.
 
can't speak for Nikon - but I bought some unbranded Canon LP-E5 batteries from said "internet auction site" - and i've had no bother so far.

Like everything though i suppose you get what you pay for, and i dont expect them to last as long as the genuine Canon parts - £5 a pop though you can't complain!
 
I use the 7DayShop batteries aswell without any problems
 
i've used cheap ebay import batteries
some of them are quite utterly pants after a few months
yellow stickered ones iirc

however, the phottix ones are pretty good, of the imports I've tried
 
I bought 2 of the Energizer replacements for the Canon E5 battery been using them a few months now and no problems last just as long as the OEM battery. I'm actually going to buy a few more but they are currently out of stock everywhere and only £9 each from tantronics. I actually use them more than I use the OEM battery.

They have the batteries for the Nikon d40 here not as cheap as the canon batteries but they work and so far last well.

I have bought auction site batteries before and they have been shocking great for 3 or 4 charges then just died and only good for 10 shots after that if charged just before I am going to use them.
 
Has anybody noticed how light in weight the copys are?

That alone spells a sad end to a battery.
 
There are loads of different clone batteries. If you search you'll find links to a review someone did - bought a dozen different ones, tested them and dismantled to check component quality/overcharge protection, etc.

7day and uniross came out best
 
Uniross seem to be a good compromise on price/performance against 'genuine' ones.

I've used a bunch of unbranded versions - most have been absolutely fine but I do get the odd one which doesn't hold it's charge too well. It's fine whilst shooting but then I'll sometimes pick up the camera and it's totally dead. Not a big deal since I've got so many that I've always got a couple charged up!

I use Uniross rechargeables in my flash which are great so hopefully their camera batteries are as good.
 
I have an unbranded ebay battery that out perfoms my gen canon battery all day every day,

pritty cheap so not guna dent the wallet if it fails in 6months.

go for it.
 
Another shout for 7Dayshop batteries. I've had one for a couple of years used in my D80 and it's still going strong.
 
Call me tight but the only branded battery I ever have is the one that comes with the camera, I think there prices are daylight robbery.

I have always got hold off Sterlingtek batteries and have never had a problem with them personally although I have heard of the odd one not keeping a charge on other forums.

The main benefit of them is they tend to be a much higher capacity and on my gripped 350D I can get a whole days shooting and more without swapping the batteries over.
