HI,

Was wandering, what is the difference between a Standard type reflective umbrella and a Parabolic reflective umbrella, am guessing that the Parabolic is a more spot type light, but not sure so was wandering if you fine peps could help, also what would you say is the best to go for, Standard or Parabolic, would be used for a mix of inside/studio and location shoots.

Thanks in advance.

The 'parabolic' ones aren't spots as such, they just don't spread the light around as much. Mostly, they aren't really parabolic.

It's useful to have both types, but like any other tools you can get similar results with either.

Thanks Gary, make more sence now, do have a standard, so may go with the Parabolic to give the options.

my go to light is a deeper umbrella because I like the fall off, different people have different tastes ;)

The Calumet 60" cnvertable is a cracking brolly and so versitile. I've got 42" & 86" parabolics and the 42" works fantastic with hot shoe flashes. It give's a hot centre and amazing fall off and is very efficiant with small flashes. A bit dfficult to use at first because its so direcional.

Thanks, did look at ten 60" while up in Glasgow, liked it but a tad on the large side for me at the moment I think, :D

Doh, I was not talking about the huge deep versions but the smaller Paul Buff type at a much more affordable cost.

Quick update, got a silver refective 46 Inc, from Calumet, bargain at £13 :D arrived to day, just need chance to play now :D
