hi guys, i've got some flimsy clamps from ebay but I don't them to hold up my flashguns properly. Can anyone recommend a set of decent umbrella clamps that are secure and don't need constant tightening to keep still.

what are you after? Clamp to stick onto poles, or do you mean a flash/brolly adaptor to use with light stand?

I bought a couple of no-name Hong Kong eBay brolly/flash adapters a couple of years ago and cracked one just the other day with marginally over zealous tightening. It still works, but it's the beginning of the end for that clamp, I think.

As a consequence I bought a replacement pair from Cotswold Photography on eBay. The brand is Hobo and they are all metal construction apart from the cold shoe adapter. They seem rich on specs/features and are very fairly priced. Trevor, the guy who runs Cotswold seems a good chap - I've spoken to him on the phone when I had a minor problem with another piece of kit, all sorted over the phone - and I don't think you'll be disappointed with the stuff he sells. This is the one I bought....

He has other varieties/specs.

Others may direct you to Calumet own brand or Manfrotto as the best options, but I have no experience of either.

Thanks Tim, I was looking at that earlier. Looks pretty decent.

Can you please point me in the direction of the calumet or manfrotto options. My company will be paying for them, so would ideally like to stay away from evilbay

apologies, its the latter than I am after!

There are magnitude of options, but if you go for metal construction, you won't go far wrong. I have one of Cotswold photos adaptor, and it's good. but it doesn't take my Westcott double folding brolly, so I use that with snoot/grid/bare, or 64" PLM which I also bought from him

I have a selection of offering from

Manfrotto

Not designed to use with speedlight, but I use the plate that comes with the flash. It's solid as rock, and the big handle helps with setting up. Some adaptors are a bit fiddly.

I use the Manfrotto ones linked above. They're very sturdy as you'd expect

Thank you for suggestions, been very helpful indeed. I reckon I'll go with the calumet ones.
