Hiya Guys!

I bet this one should be real simple but no one seems to be able to give me a straight answer - all I want is a stand and a white umbrella to have a play with. I've been looking at the Lencarta stand and white umbrella but I'm unsure what adapters I need or where to get them from?

Someone did send me this link but this looks like just a flash adapter not for the umbrella as well?

Hi, Lencarta also sell the speedlight holder that you need. It will take a brolly and Bowens mount softboxes. Listed as STR-1 under speedlite accessories. Sorry I have not figured out how to post a link yet.

Since I need, on location work, an umbrella quite often and since
I know it is easier to reduce flash output power than to increase it,
I opted for a silver umbrella + 3x SB900 and this gizmo linked here
bellow. This cheetah is cool because it gives me full control on the
distribution of light inside the umbrella

Is this what you have in mind?

Just sit it on your stand and pass the brolley through the hole and tighten it up.

Speedlight clamped in the centre. Speedlight can then have pocket wizard atached if required.

Cheap and simple.

This is what I got http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360-Swive...515040?hash=item43df523320:g:IBYAAOSwLVZVmzJ~

I don't use an umberella that often but it does the job

The first is much easier to use and gives better results - the speedlite is mounted in the centre - than the second. Lencarta sell them as do numerous eBay sellers.

Whereas this will only really be of value if you are using 2 or 3 speedlites:

Not 2 but 3 as I said!

For my purpose, the best tool I found.

But not exactly helpful to the OP.

Very often I started with an idea and it grew into something else.
Those who contributed to these adjustments were indeed
helpful.

Quite agree Kodiak and it gives you yet another opportunity to bragg about the top of the line gear you have:rolleyes::exit:

brag: To talk or write about oneself in a proud or self-impressed way.
I had to look that one up!

This is an interesting statement, Andrew!
Some members will argue that canon is not nikon, bron is not profoto,
gitzo or rss is not feisol or manfrotto etc.

If you knew me and how I make business decisions, after 4 decades in
the trade and 2 sons that are taking over soon, I could not leave them
with anything else than good quality gear.

When it comes to bragging, oh yes, my children are my pride!

I have only encountered Kodiak Qc on here, and I see nothing but quality pictures and advice from a professional who uses quality gear. That is no detriment as he produces the results and all the gear are just 'tools'. If his clients are prepared to pay for his quality photos, then I see no reason to criticise his kit, even if it is 'tongue in cheek'.

Not everyone goes for the cheapest option, as there are often good reasons for 'investing' in more expensive kit.

This applies not just to photography.

After all the manure thrown in my direction since I am here,
this is very soothing!

Thanks Ian.

Kodiak...I was pulling your leg, you will probably have to look that up too.....but on a serious note you are not shy of telling all on an open forum all about what gear have and yes it is good gear, very saleable, I do not give fig what you own but as someone involved in security during my working life I can tell you it is really not a good idea. It is a bit like standing in a city square and shouting out a list of all your gear together with your location an open invitation if you like. If I have ratled your cage then I apologise, I thought even you would have taken note of the two emotecons at the end. For an aged hippy Kodiak you are a bit uptight, chill man, be cool as you would say, strum few bars on the old guitar.......relax....have drink.

Hi Cally,

What is your budget for all the bits this may help? You can get something cheap like a

Konig lights stand - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Photography-Light-professional-studio-photolamps/dp/B0011363NS

Umbrella Holder - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Tilt...d=1455219301&sr=1-5&keywords=umbrella+bracket

Or you could go for a Calumet air lights stand and a http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-0...78&sr=1-1&keywords=manfrotto+umbrella+bracket if you want to spend more.

Yes Andrew, I had to!

• As far as security is concerned, my studio is a thousand miles from London!
…further more, there a five hockey players in this house…

• I'll take the suggestion to strum as I am not a drinker.
…and now I am "bragging", on which of my seventeen guitars?

• No hippy had so many motorbikes as I did, so I'll translate that to old rocker.
…you shall repeat "old" when we're eye to eye! :-)

• Pulling my leg… sorry if I did not see the nuance, English is not my thing.

Cheers Andrew, no damage done then.

Thanks guys really appreciate the help but after hours of trawling the internet and not really getting anywhere I have purchased a cheap and cheerful set on eBay for £25 (2 umbrellas, 2 stands 2 adapters)

I know it's going to be crap but I figured for £25 I can get some experience and have a play before buying the real thing.

It'll do the job. Just take care with the placement of flashgun and zoom settings to fill the brollies.

I'm just looking at doing the very same thing... :)

zoom settings to fill the brollies.

+1
Yes, fill the brollies (zoom out + extend) for large spot, spread and falloff
but zoom in and push in for tighter spot and spread and extended falloff
