Hey I am currently making a list of stuff that I need to make a outdoor flash set up for cars. Have sorted most things but am stuck on what umbrellas I would need.

Would a all white umbrella be what I want or a white with black outside one.

Sorry if the question sounds silly but i just want to make sure before I buy. Also is there a major difference in what brand I buy?

Thanks In advance

Why not get an umbrella that has both... translucent with a removable black cover to allow you to bounce the flash into the umbrella and to fire the flash through the umbrella - depending on the kind of light you were going for?

There won't be much if any of a difference in the light from a 10 quid brolly and a 100 quid brolly (same size of course). The difference will be in durability.

..and colour temperature consistency
..and light loss through the material (shoot throughs)
..and pattern of light reflection (reflectors)
Etc
Etc
Etc

However, getting a shoot through with a reflective skin is a good idea, just get a decent brand.

On another point...

Car photography is all about controlling the shape of the light. You might want to think that through before spending money that could be better placed (ie a strip box) later!
