Don't you hate it when you lend a mate something and it comes back half missing (ok, actually a third missing)? Wanted to do some strobist experiments tonight and I got my stand and umbrella back but no umbrella bracket. :bang:

Straight on the mobile oi where is blah blah Me and my mate have a unwritten rule .. borrow anything but if it breaks or you lose it you replace it.. works well as we all know the score

Almost as bad is when you lend something and they don't bother to return it until you go asking for it. And that can be months later, by which time you've forgotten, can't find it, can't be sure you lent it.........

I have a neighbour who likes to think he can borrow my tools instead of buying his own. Last year he wanted to borrow my electric chainsaw to chop down a 40 foot tree with a 12in trunk, then cut it up in to logs. My short answer with no explanation was "No".
 
I hate lending stuff out, as Im quite precious about my kit.
I also hate borrowing, oddly Im even more precious then, & I just become a nervous wreck about it!
... So basically I just dont do either!:D

Same here - learned the hard way. It too often ends in sorrow.
 
I would be willing to lend people i trust my gear, but on a condition of "break it, i kill you but only after you have bought me a brand spanking new one!"
 
Only two phrases sends a chill down my spine.

The first one is "Can I borrow your . . .".

The other one is "Can you do me a favour . . . ".

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUrrrrgh! Nooo!
 
i lent a friend a camcorder, it was returned in visually ok condition, i put it on the shelf and forgot about it.

i then picked it up to use it in the future and found that the tape wouldnt eject, so i did a bit of meddling and ended up playing what was recorded on the tape, she had proped it on something whilst filming and i watched from the camera as it fell off whatver it was put on and onto the pavement.


i was livid, if shed told me what had happened i wouldnt have minded too much but to pretend all was well and gave it me back knowlingly broken, i never spoke to her again.

I borrowed a mates video camera, I always giggle to myself when I see his wife now :)

Trust 'em once, if they break that then break them and never trust them again. ;)

Probably went straight down to Sighthill and flogged it for a couple of quid. :lol::lol:
