No more help on this?

I can't comment on the TZ10 as I've never used one, but we have an LX5 and the images it takes are fabulous, low light performance is great too.

You get a faster lens with the LX5 (f2.0), RAW capture and a rear thumbwheel which I find very DSLR-like to use - but you sacrifice the zoom capabilities of the TZ10.

As an allround compact, we never had an issues with the zoom range on the LX5 and IMO is a fantastic camera.

Best idea is to get down to a store and try both out and see which you prefer.

Hi again

Are you able to show us some good samples you have taken with your LX5?

Yes, I can do - but will be tomorrow as not at home tonight.

If you don't mind me asking Andrew, why are you selling the GF-1, it has to be better than the LX-5 and it's not massively bigger?

Reason is that I seem to be stuck on the 20mm to keep it compact if i had other lens on it wont be as compact.. That why thinking going for the LX5 which has that little zoom that all i need 24 - 90mm i believe and that will do me.

Otherwise I would keep it.

Have a look at the flickr groups for LX5

DMC lx5 group

lx5 group

I just got mine and I am very pleased with it. However it wont fit in a jeans pocket....

What case you using with yours??? Someone says it will but i cant see it fitting in jeans pocket at all but someone was saying it not much bigger than a TZ10

Just bought TZ10 for daughter as xmas pressie as she is off to Las Vegas over xmas.

TZ10 was on offer for £229 in Costco not sure if offer is still on. Comes with a case and SDHC card
Brother in law has TZ8 and it's a fabulous little camera.

It won't unless they are very loose jeans... The lens is too big..

Funny you should ask about the case, I looked at all sorts today and it wouldn't fit in any of them.

The one it does fit into is neoprene and stretches over the lens to allow it to slip into the case.

I bought it :)

Lowepro dublin 30 jessops

I wouldn't buy one from them....

Much better prices around.. even Amazon has it for much cheaper.

Kerso will do it even cheaper

Kerso is definately cheaper than Jessops. I was going to get one last week while in the UK - Prices in Europe are mad - but Kerso came up trumps, AGAIN!!

Myself and her indoors have the TZ(travel zoom) cameras and cant fault them. Get great shots with image stabalizer on.

Morning Andrew, here's some pics as promised. These are straight out of the camera no editing apart from a crop on some of them and a resize for the forum:

A landscapy shot:
30mm, f8.0, 1/160sec, Auto ISO @ 125, AWB, Std Pic Style

A closeup indoor shot:
24mm, f2.0, 1/1000sec, Auto ISO @ 80, AWB, Dynamic Pic Style

A low light (night actually) shot:
88mm, f3.1, 1/20 sec, Auto ISO @ 800, AWB, Std Pic Style

Another nightime shot:
30mm, f2.2, 0.3sec, Auto ISO @ 400, Std pic style

A low light interior:
38mm, f3.2, 1/320 sec, Auto ISO @ 80, AWB, Dynamic pic style

And a B&W for good measure!
65mm, f2.9, 1/320sec, Auto ISO @ 125, Dynamic B&W Pic Style

I have 900 holiday shots to go through but what really surprises me is that hardly any of them need any major work, the results out of camera are IMO first class.

Thanks those images are great goes to show what the camera does. Did u use flash for any of the night?

No, none of these had any flash or any kind light manipulation - just handheld using auto ISO capped at max ISO1600 (although it rarely strayed up that far!)

Mainly in Aperture Priority or Full auto iA mode (which is very good)

Decided yet? :naughty:

Has anyone on here played with a Canon S95? If so, how did it compare. I am drawn to the LX5 but the smaller size if the S95 is very appealing for pocketablity.

Failing that, anyone know of threads on the S95, as the search function is not there at the moment.

Never used the S95 Mark, but before the LX5 we had an S90 and IMHO, comparing the two the LX5 is significantly better, especially image quality out of the camera. I know the S95 is an improvement over the S90 but for me, I couldn't imagine it being a big enough jump to beat the Panny.

The LX5 may be bigger but it is far easier to hold for me (I think the S95 has a new "grippier" finish though) and I like the rear DSLR-esque thumbwheel. The zoom isn't as long on the LX5 but to be honest I never really noticed in actual use and I did appreciate the wider end of the LX5. Battery seems to last longer per charge too.

The only negative I can find on the LX5 is the lens cap and storage of the neck strap means the case has to be quite bulky.

Some key points..

  • No hotshoe on S95
  • No continuous focus during video on s95 (not 100% sure of this one)
  • No zoom during video on S95
  • Fastest aperture of 4.9 at 3.8 zoom (v 3.3 on the panny)
  • No ability to do extra zoom (lx5 can be a 5 x zoom @ 5mp)

Any others anybody know?
