Yes
Left Sky a couple of weeks ago as they would not do me an offer. So now looking at TV and may well go for Apple TV, as aside from the watch its the only apple product i don't have!!!

I loved Sky, but £80 a month for everything is just too much - over £100 with BB too. Sky+ was great, and having loads of old films on the box was great, as was stuff to watch later or christmas cooking programmes!! In terms of TV watching a lot was freeview (i.e. ITV4) but also food channels, music, films as well as sports. Seeing as we now move into a more tech age was thinking Apple TV may be better, but what are the costs - i.e. on Sky, movies was part of our package so free, is there a way with Apple I can watch old films such as the Lavender hill mob and what are the costs? Will it work out any cheaper (thinking of going to BT for BB so I can get Bundesliga and CL).

Looking at the new Apple TV it is basically a Wii so can just get games off the app store and play there. So, who has one and thoughts?

2 good options - natively you can use netflix, youtube and nowTV (there are other apps, but these are the main ones), or you can send video from your apple device (OS X, or iOS) to the apple tv, so you can use a multitude of apps such as amazon prime video, iPlayer etc. Some apps cannot send from iOS, such as sky.

Use canistream.it to see what services the films you want to watch are on. The only service you can watch Lavender hill mob on is via iTunes for 3.49 rental.

Apple TV (HD) also allows you to stream Video, Pictures & Music from your home PC / iPad / iPhone to your TV.

I would also look at Amazon TV (HD) where subscription is FREE if you have Amazon Prime and there are plenty of FREE Films & TV programs.

In Cyprus so annoyingly when i go into netflix it just tells me its not available in this country!!! Doh, do these people not realise that you may be accessing their site while you are away for a few days!!! Hard to see what you get for your money!!!

You're on holiday. Why on earth do you want to be watching the TV?

New App Store on the new version means plea and others. I have 2 apple TVs and they are great.

Amazon Prime stick - you should be able to pick one up for £20 on Black Friday - and prime is well worth £80 a year. Out Apple TV is basically used to facilitate AirPlay...

I have Amazon Fire TV too. You can then add apps for Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC and ITV, and play stuff from mobile devices or your home network. There are loads of apps and games too. And a game controller.

There are 3 tv options

now tv - the best for films
Netflix - best for series
Amazon video - poor 3rd place, worst film selection (without paying extra) and series selection is worse than Netflix. Only used for Amazon exclusives.

Doesn't the sky box still work for free view? If not get a hdd freesat box then one of the mentioned above for films.

Another option Is to move your broadband and phone over to virgin. You then basically have a free basic TV package and a TiVo box which I prefer to the sky box and you don't have to line Murdoch's pockets.

I much prefer Prime to Netflix, so does the wife, so much so we cancelled Netflix 4 months ago and have not looked back.

we have LG Smart TVs as they have the big 3(NowTV, Prime, Netflix) as well as others(iPlayer/Demand5), something which at one point other brand smarts did not but that might have changed now,, the PS4 has them all but then I am using 2 boxes so I will only use that for 4oD..

you could consider a LG Smart Blu Ray player which like their TVs have the big 3 on and then you have the option of picking up bargain blu rays..

Lg has a deal with Now TV so that they are the only people able to have the app on the TV

Can't get Virgin here, using the sky box for freeview but need more channels. Was looking at bt but begrudge paying a 44 activation fee. Seeing as I have fibre already why should I pay that?

What I was unsure about with Internet TV devices, was if I can watch any service I like on it, or are there restrictions?

Are they all compatible with each other? Or does each maker have it's own system? I don't want to buy in to some limited Betamax.

I ended up getting the Amazon Fire TV, which is Android, where not only are lots of things already available, like Minecraft, but it's going to be more future proof, as it's easy to port apps to.

Also you don't need to sign up to Prime or iTunes to lock you in.

how are you finding NowTV on Fire Stick??

I thought now TV was a box. Should I look out for it?

I just looked up now TV, and it's already available for Android, but not yet ported officially to the Amazon Fire TV. Amazon sell the now TV box. So it'll probably show up soon. If not you can usually side load the apk. There's an app for that.

I don't need to bother with nowTV player. I'd not even heard of it before.

One I discovered is the STV player. Amongst other Scottish shows, it has all ~100 episodes of Taggart.
I don't recommend watching too much Taggart though, as you'll end up saying "Jarkie found a wee gurruls bordy".

Now TV = Sky content on demand over the internet. Movies, entertainment or sport. Choose what you want.

You get sky movies for around £6 a month if you find all the deals.

In the end gone back with Sky, the 60% off for 12 months was tempting enough! Just got to decide on BB supplier now.
