Tutorial or thread to still life lighting

Never tried lighting up anything before.
Going to complete my 52 tonight, and im wanting to light up a still life I have set up on a small side table.
What is anybody either have a good link to hand. Or any pointers in this thread would also be appreciated.

I will be going for a moody, probably monotone theme in the final shot.
