Beginner Tuition near Derby, Notts or Leics

Hi all, I've been a KEEN photographer for a few years and taken some nice photos, to a standard that I have them displayed in my house. However, they basically fall into the below categories.
1) outdoor landscape in good light
2) Long exposure night with moving lights
3) holiday snaps
4) again, outdoor with good light

Where I feel I need to improve is poor lighting situations, indoor, portrait, etc.

I have some ok kit but feel I need tuition to help me understand techniques and my tools.


Where would people recommend for tuition in the Nottingham, Derby, Leicester areas?

Hi @jsstevo. whilst i don't really know of anyone for this kind of help locally, (I'm in Notts) I have found YouTube a great source of info to help me out with similar stuff to what you are wanting to do. I have recently dabbled in flash work for portraits and YT has always had the answer I was looking for. Being able to sit and watch it then pause it and try it out to see if I can do it has been a real bonus for me.

Maybe you should give it a go, it's not like it's going to cost you anything if you don't get on with it.

Have a look here, not that local (not that far either), but it's free, you'll learn loads about lighting and whilst there's nothing there about 'portraits' if you get chatting to people during breaks I'm sure you could pick up some tips ;).

I think there might be space available if you contact Garry as there's been a couple drop out at short notice.
