Size is not just about pixel dimensions but also about 'file size in number of kb' this thread might help. https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/what-file-size.647126/

So when in Photoshop you save or save as you need to reduce the jpeg 'quality' setting to see and hence save as appropriate based on say quality of 8 at 350kb

Hope that makes sense:)

Thank you for your effrot Box Brownie - but I don't really understand. The long size is 780 pixels, and it is saved at 72 dpi...miniscule sizing, yet it is still too big? It is so small on my computer that I can't actually tell what the picture is of, it is that tiny. So why is too big?

What does that mean? I have resized it down to 675 pixels and it is still too big - just how tiny does it have to be? Instead of keep on having to go by trial and error - can someone put the actual pixel size or something I will recognise, that I can resize to first time and it will work? I have to admit, I have absolutely no idea what these pixel counts mean - I just quote them.

The quality of the jpeg is probably to high. Leave the pixel dimensions as is and dropping the quality to 90% or 80% should do it. It's one of those settings it took me years to suss.

Right click on the file on your computer and go to properties.

That will give you size of the file on your hard drive.

It has to less that 500kb (kilobytes) or 500,000 bytes roughly

What software do you use to do the resizing, Simon? I use Photoshop Elements 12 (I think but it could be an edition or 2 either way!) and resize to (usually) 900px (pixels) x 600px before a final sharpen (if needed) and saving. It's at the save step that the final file size can be worked on - I Save As a .jpg and in the dialogue window that opens, I tick the Preview box to a) see the final product (I zoom in to 100% to see the image at the final size so I can see at what point oversharpening creeps in and back off a twitch!) and b) see the file size. If it's over 350kB (I think that's the forum limit), I knock the quality back and see if that's far enough without impacting on image quality. If I can't get the file size down far enough, I simply don't bother any more - I dislike sharing shots for small screen view enough as it is (far preferring A4 or larger prints as a viewing option.)
