Trying something different -advice please

I have never done anything different with my photo processing so wanted to try something new. There is probably an easier way to do this but I just used the lasso tool to select all the bits of scenery I wanted to take the colour from, did "adjust colour and remove colour, and just left the combine in colour.I used photoshop elements. Please can you comment and advise. Thanks

Quite nice Sue.
I don't know if Elements does layers, if it does a quicker method might be to duplicate the layer, desaturate the top layer and either erase the bits you want in colour (it'll show the original background layer through) or better still use layer masks if it has them, that way you can fix any mistakes.

Thank you. I am only just learning about layers. I will try to do what you have suggested with another picture- maybe one with less intricate bits and pieces than the combine.Thanks for the suggestions
