Ive been there with the cheap amazon £15 jobbies

flogged that quickly and bought a Giotto 9521 i think its called and a 5001 P&T head.

Its great but its big.

Noticed them all hanging up in jessops the other day and a manfrotto one beside it was tiny .. i mean not tiny but alot smaller and more compact.

Are there any decent tripods that will fold up nice and compact while still being a very robust and good tripod?

Just try a few out in a shop, or do some research online. It's not hard. Just look for details suchs as folded length and weight.

Light, small, strong tripods = expensive. Ask yourself how much you will use it too. Do you really need a carbon fibre tripod for example if you're not hiking for hours with it?

I bought a Redsnapper tripod, very happy with it. Goggle them.

i saw redsnapper but he was more expensive at the time than the giotto which was highly regarded

i dont want CF just something nice and small i can strap to the bag without looking like im carrying a house

So... Get the Giotto one! Really, only you can decide which one suits you best.

i ahve the giotto one :P i meant its quite large compared to a recent trip to jessops where i saw a nice diddy manny .. probably big bucks though so im clutching straws

I must admit I'm not even sure I am looking for the right things. I was playing with the tripods in a London Photo Exchange and frankly I hated them all - even without a camera on them they would all shake (put two fingers on the top and moved to the side).

Half temped to take a risk and buy a Trek-Tech Go Pro mono/tripod. Although that might be a massive mistake - I hear very different things about the arrangement.
