I currently use a 5D MKII and I've recently purchased a 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM lens, my next major purchase is a tripod suitable for mounting this lens. I don't currently own a tripod, probably a major photographic faux pas, but that's by the by, if anyone here on the forums could suggest a tripod and recommend a tripod heads it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Hardly a faux pas, I genuinely can't remember the last time I used my tripod.

Tripods are a real minefield tbh, you need to consider carefully what your going to do with it. By that I mean, will you trek around the hills and mountains in search of the killer landscape shot...... if so, you might sacrifice some rigidity for lightness. Or, would you require absolute stillness and don't mind having arms like Arnie lugging it about.

Gitzo carbon tripods are reasonably light for the size and quite rigid, but at great £££
Manfrotto's 55pro is a great tripod for the money but not the stiffest or lightest.

I have an alu manfrotto 190 with the rc322 head for trekking round with, but also a larger Gitzo carbon with a ball head that weighs almost as much as the 190
