Currently got a Manfrotto BeFree Advanced tripod with 494 ball head, but it’s not right for me, couple of times it’s not been quite tall enough.

I’m looking for a tripod for landscape, Astro, bit of everything really but not wanting to spend £100s

Just wondering what people might recommend

Biggest load would be OM3 with 40-150 f2.8 & 1.4 teleconverter. I’d quite like to do some wildlife if that helps!

I’d suggest a look at Artcise or leofoto.
I got a couple of artcise in 2020/2021 and sold my gitzo 5 after checking it out

Dont know if teyre still outside budget but ive beien impressed.might have something in range tall/ strong enough.
I also have a 3lt billy punks for travel, harder to use imo but seems ok when setuo but id be worried on astro if you’re using a sky tracker

Not going to give you the old 2 from 3 re tripods, these are brands i’ve bought, been happy enough with that 8d buy again if looking

Thanks for this, unfortunately I’d rather be closer to the top of the legs as a centre poll is going to increase wobble, additionally I want something a bit more stable with legs too.

For astro, I believe you need a close to rock solid tripod which isn't going to be light. For stability, you don't really want the legs fully extended. I reckon one of the tall Gitzos might be the answer but they're not cheap!

If weight is not an issue have a look at some of the aluminium Manfrotto's on the s\hand market e.g 190 or 055.

After owning and using many tripods, I can only say that the least bad design for general use, in my opinion, is the Benbo.

It goes anywhere and I've not found any situation in which it doesn't meet my needs. There's also a brand called Uniloc, which produces much the same design. I use one of their light weight variants of the Benbo and I've found that very good also.

Thanks all for the input, can’t believe how expensive some tripods are!!!

I did look at alll the options, so thank you.

I found a Manfrotto 190 XPROB on Vinted for £50 so thought I’d take a punt and if I didn’t like it resell it, the. I the found a Manfrotto 055 CXPRO3 on eBay with a 486 head and carry case for £100, so I have ordered that and whichever ones I’m left with, will resell!

I’m thinking the carbon fibre 055 will probably be best and it seemed like a good price!
