Hi all, I'm starting to really get into my water photography, and am looking at getting a low level tripod (if such thing exists) to get some decent shutter lengths from as low to the ground as possible.

If anyone knows of any good products, or a decent alternative to enable me to keep the camera still for these shots, I'd appreciate it.
 
what about a gorillapod?

it depends on your budget I just brought a 3LT X1 the center column can be removed and the head mounted directly to the legs the legs open very wide and make a very stable platform to shoot from
 
I've heard about Gorillapods, but what sort of weight can they handle? I'm using a Nikon D5000 with standard 18-55mm lens
 
I have a 550D with a kit lens and the gorilla pod handles this perfectly well....I wouldn't be rapping it onto any poles or things like that (which your supposed to be able to do) but it supports and holds on a level surface perfectly
 
What about a standard tripod with an adjustable centre column.

You can get really low with something like this
 
Thanks for the input guys. Very helpful. Looking more into this, I've also found bean bags for cameras, anyone use these or know of anyone who does or has?
 
The advice with tripods is always buy the best you can afford, that way you buy once and it could last you a lifetime.
Buy a cheap tripod and
a) you'll be disappointed
b) you'll probably need to replace it every couple of years.

Only you know how much you can spend and how heavy a tripod you are prepared lug about.

Cheap, Weight, Stable - pick any two.

Bean bag.......wouldn't be without one:), great for getting those low shots and good to kneel on for those not so low shots:thumbs:

Get one from our very own supplier on the forum like I did:)
 
For a really stable and very flexible solution look at the Benbo range.

The legs are water proof tubes, so even better if you need to work in up to two feet of water.

The only thing better than a Benbo is the Uni-loc Major series.
They are designed by the original Benbo designer and have a few extra features. Pricey at around £300-400 - but mine will last a lifetime so I consider it great value.

I've got the older version of this.

Legs spread very wide to give low ground height, comes with short and long centre columns both of which can be reversed to allow you to get the camera inverted between the tripod legs as another alternative.

Good price too.
