Hi folks, looking for some info on a suitable tripod for macro photography. It would be mainly for flowers and the odd insect.I would be using my Canon 5D and 100mm macro

Any decent tripod that allows you to spread the legs at 90 degrees so you can get flat to the ground will work. I modded my Gitzo (Series 1) G1098 Basalt by removing the centre column for macro with my X-T1. Works perfectly. You can read the article I did on it HERE.

Still got and use mine i guess it must be getting on for 30 years old.

Manfrotto 055XPROB has a centre column that you can pull up, unlock and swing 90 degrees plus legs that can pretty much do the splits. :D

Give a bit of thought to the head as well.
I used a Manfrotto 190 ProB with a ball head , a 5D and a 100mm macro and could never stop the camera/lens from slowly drooping as I could never get the head tight enough, I got a lens tripod mounting ring which made a world if difference but what really solved the problem was a junior 410 geared head
