Hi,

Tripods and heads would be used for all forms of shooting from portrait to macro.

Having read this thread regarding tripods that InaGlo asked I was wondering if the Manfrotto 190DB and recommended heads Manfrotto 486 RC2 head (£45 ) was ok for a Canon 350D plus Canon 100-400 IS L lens or would it be worthwhile going to the 488RC2 (£59).

Also is the new 190XProB worth the price over the older 190DB considering it is nearly twice the price ( just asking as my dad will be doing macro stuff ).

Obviously wanting to keep costs down as much as possible ( as I am buying 2 setups - 1 for me and 1 for my dad ) but don't want to compromise useability and would rather pay a little extra to get a better product than be frustrated with lighter and wobbly kit if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

Hi Mike,
I don,t know if this will be much help to you, but i have a 350d and have just upgraded my tripod and head to a Manfrotto 055mf3 magfibre, and an 804 rc2 head.
Quite pricey at £200 tripod and £54.95 for the head, but for stability for macro or realy all round photography it is the bee,s knees. However having said that it is quite a heavy set up , so if you intend to carry your gear any distance, i think i would go for something a little lighter.

All the best in your quest,

Dave P.

Hi Mikey.

Both should be fine for your cam. However, you may wish to look at Morris photographic as they currently have the 190xprob and 804rc2 head at £144.95 delivered!!!!

Not a bad price - beats anywhere else I have found so far!!!

Hi,

thanks for the help, I eventually went for the Manfrotto 055CLB and Manfrotto 488RC2 Ballhead - total cost £162.50.

Went with the combo as it can go from 8cm to 178cm and the ballhead I figured was easier for Wildlife and was capable for taking my 350D and 100-400L zoom..

See ya,

Mike.
