Hi all

Got a problem i thought you guys might be able to help me with.
My wife and I are going on holiday to Italy in the next few days and want to take my tripod to get the most of those sunsets/sunrises. but worried that it might cause a problem getting through customs. I was going to take it in My camera bag which will be coming with me as hand luggage, and also we are running out of space in the suitcase - we have a joint one and the BA website says the weight limit is 23K.

Does anyone have any tips, or has flown recently and knows the best solution?

ta :)

cheers hypnotic, but space is an issue too, we have to fit it all in the car and a few of us are going :(

but you think putting it in the suitcase is the safest bet?

maybe i'll chuck out me clothes ;)

The thieving gits down at baggage handling will nick it or bash it about a bit no matter where it is.

You may not be allowed to take it on as hand luggage because it may be used as a weapon.

Put in in your case and wrap cloths around it to pad it to give it a fighting chance when the baggage bashes get hold of it.

cheers hypnotic... i think i will see what the wieght of our suitcase once i know everything is in it, then throw inthe tripod if theres room, if not, i'll have to leave it hear :(

thanks again

Thanks Mho, good advice.. they do like to play jumbo jet football with the luggage dont they

If my girlfriend manages to find her passport in time then I'm due to fly to Pisa next week. We're intending to take hand luggage only (going for a few days only) in which case I'll pack my tripod in my backpack. If they make a fuss, I'll leave it behind and just have to make do when I'm over there.

Of course, if you can fit it in your baggage then that might be a better idea. To be honest I've no idea what the policy is, or if it's down to discretion.

I went to Lithuania the week before last and put the tripod in the case with no problems. :)

You'll have to keep an eye on weight, we had no problem, but we took lightweight summer clothes, and were only going for 5 days. Check the weight limits of your carrier, you may have to pay an excess if you go over weight, which can be pricey. ;)

I took my manfrotto on as hand luggage they weren't happy, but it can also go as over sized luggage then you but it in the oversized place and it is treated as fragile but put a fragile sticker on-it to be safe
