Tripod Advice... Yes Another post!

Hi

Im looking to upgrade my tripod. I have a basic velbon... that really is not so good... I think it's to light.... but it might be more to do with the poor construction I think.

I have a budget of about £300... what can I buy??? I guess id not want to pay more than £400... but it would have to sing and dance.

I know the difference with head styles etc... Im more wanting peoples recomendations based on long term durability, steadyness, ease of use, feet. Id be mainly using it for landscape shots.

A lot of people will recommend Redsnapper to you as it gets a very good review and it at a really good price. I will eventually invest in a t-pod and head at some point, but i haven't needed one as of yet.

A few questions you need to ask yourself to help in your choice ...

What height do I need?
What weight will it need to hold?
Is weight of the tripod and issue, will I need to carry it long distances?

Answering those questions may narrow your choice down dramatically

What height do I need? I'd like something that extends to at least 1.75m high.What weight will it need to hold? Id say a max of 2500g would be well over any future requirements.Is weight of the tripod and issue, will I need to carry it long distances? Weight is not too big an issue... I have a smaller velbon tripod I use for travel and mountain use if I was going really far... Im quite fit so as long as I have it strapped to my ruc sac a few miles of carrying would not be a problem.

Like I said before... im also interested in it being able to stand up to a bit of long term punishment... miminal plasticy bits that could break... max stability for my money... ease of use and Yeh... I'd like it to also go low and have independant legs.

I have a tripod that I paid about £25 for years ago and its served me well and is spot on.

It hold my camera steady what else is needed.


Can I just ask what benefits do you get from a £300 tripod compared to a cheapo ??

I have the Manfrotto 190CX PRO4 with the 488RC2 ballhead which fits in your price range. It'll comfortably hold 2.5kg and more and is lightweight and sturdy. But with all things like this its best to try it out first to see if you like it.
