Beginner Trip to New York Advice

I shot NYC 3 years back with both a Fuji X100 and also a Canon G1X MK-2, I wished as soon as I got there i'd taken my FX Camera, but the lenses in mention, the weight and the misses shopping would be too much, I think what you have will serve you perfectly. - Im looking forward to seeing the results.

Went to NY a month ago. Took the D750 with just primes for weight - 20mm, 50mm and 85mm plus the Fuji X100t (35mm). The Fuji and the 20mm got most of the shots. Around the streets the 20mm was perfect (full frame so around 14mm on DX) great for the wide perspective like Flat Iron building etc... The 50 and to a greater extent the 85 was good at times to get close ups but the Fuji was brilliant for the everyday street stuff or to travel light. Longer than 85mm may have been nice on the Rock to get closer shots of Empire State building but tbh if I was going again, I could probably make do with the 20mm and 35mm, with maybe an 85mm for the odd bit. The beauty there is that these lenses will be much better for IQ than say an 18-200 and great for night of lower light shots, or just to get the b/g out of focus

You can take your tripod up the top of the Rock (well you could in 2015) but not up the Empire State. I'd recommend buying a Manfrotto Pixi tripod to take up with you, for £20 it's a little bargain if you go to places where tripods aren't allowed.
