I will be traveling the world in September and it's quite obvious ill be wanting to put my photography into practise outside this damn country, i can't take my DSLR for obvious reasons, ie. Size, weight, increased likelyhood of it getting nicked and it's just not practical.

What compact would everyone recommend, i need one that wont start beinga :gag: in extreme heat and could maybe take a few bashing in the onld backpack that i will be living out of!

Thanks :)

Could you not take a very small DSLR, say a D40x or something and a 50mm 1.8 or similar? You'll see some amazing stuff so I'd think about trying to take a small and light weight setup if possible but within the DSLR world still, unless it really is absolutely not going to fit :(

I will only be taking a 45 litre backpack so the size is a crutial element of it, im after a good quality 10MP+ compact for under 250 of your british sterling, so i assume just any one really, just after some recommentations!

Happy xmas rich!

If battery charging is going to be a problem, I'd look at cameras that can take standard sized batteries and can easily be obtained abroad.

G9 every time:D(should be a bargain now that the G10 is out)Compact and unobtrusive.Worked fine in 40 degrees of heat in Rome.I'd take a couple of spare batteries and a charger with international adaptors and you'll be well set up.

This was the only camera I took for 2 weeks in Rome,Florence and the Piemonte and it captured some wonderful shots for me.
