Over the last two years of Travelling around Europe and the Caribbean, with a bit of camping/backpacking in the UK I have gone through 3 Tripods in just two years and no they were not cheap ones two of them being Manfrottos and another which I can not remember the name now.

I am doing the Balearics in June and was looking at getting a Gorillapod but are they any good? I keep seeing pictures of them clinging to rocks and wrapped around tree's but??

You "went through" 3 three good expensive tripods in 2 years? If you mean you broke them or wore than out then you'll probably break a gorillapod within a week.

On the other hand I'm still using a 30 year old tripod, my oldest, and often carry my trusty gorillapod because it's so handy, not just as a camera support, but as a flash support, or a way of stabilising a monopod for a long exposure.

What are you going to hang off the 'pod? I use a Gorillapod SLR Zoom under an FF DSLR and a 24-120 but only when it's wrapped around something rather than being used as a tripod. 1/2 tempted to try a Focus instead but can't really justify the expense. I also use a Giottos Vitruvian CF travel tripod. If you keep breaking them, try a different material - alloy ones tend to be less brittle than CF ones but are also heavier and can bend.
