Hi all,
I currently have a Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod, with a quick release 496RC2 Ball Head - which is decent enough. However, it is a little on the heavy side at just over 2kg combined.

I'm looking to get a second tripod, one that is a bit more compact and lightweight for travel, e.g. no more than 1.5kg combined I would suggest.

I would like it to be compatible with the quick release plate, currently attached to my camera if possible - or if it was a tripod without head, for it to be compatible with my current ball head as above.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. My camera is a D750, with a Tamron 24-70 2.8 - so fairly heavy.

ANY head is fairly easily converted to the Manfrotto RC2 type QR system by using their 323 adaptor plate. This is attached to the original plate (or direct to the head if no QR plate on the head) using the 1/4" screw. My travel tripod of choice is the Giottos Vitruvian CF - not cheap but handles my D750 and 24-120 f/4 well.
 
Manfrotto befree come in both alloy and carbon. Small, light and fairly sturdy for a small tripod. I easily attach my 6D with a 24-105 or 16-35mm. I've even had a 70-200 f2.8 attached as a last resort.

Uses the usual RC2 manfrotto plate.

I have a Manfrotto BeFree One which is not the lightest but it really folds down in length and is very stable in use.

I bought the Red verion not to be funky but because, at the time, WEX had a £40 off voucher just for the red.

I have used it with my gripped 50D (no lightweight with an EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS) and it felt stable on a gudty days on the Gower and on the Kerry coast early in February.

I bought mine on spec though I was looking at the BeFree compact originally.

One to consider but not for everyone obviously. I am waiting for an Arca converter plate to use with tje Arca grip attached to my EOS M. If that works out, the BeFree One will probably be first choice non studio tripod.

Thanks for the recommendations. The Befree One (32cm) version looks to be good value for money, and will handle my gear OK (current combined weight of around 1.8kg).

Purchased :)
