Hi I have a Nikon D90 and was just wondering what lens people use to travel with. I currently have the 18-200mm lens but not really happy with some of the pictures taken at 200mm as I dont travel with a tripod. I tend to take landscape and portrait type photos. Any ideas be good to hear, Thanks:)

What's your budget and are bothered about 3rd party glass? There's a Tamron 18-270 for slightly less tha £400 that's had some good reviews.

Which end of the 18-200mm are the majority of your current travel shots at?

My travel setup is pretty light, though I do bring a travel angel tripod along. In the order of most used to least:-

1) 12-24mm
2) 35mm f1.8
3) 85mm f1.8

The prime lenses are used when I revisit the more interesting locations, since its nice to have a different perspective to the views.

I only have a Nikon 16-85mm and a Nikon 70-300mm, and while I take both on holiday, the 70-300mm rarely gets used. 16-85mm is enough range for me most of the time (on mainly city breaks). The odd time I may want something (slightly) wider, but that's a whole other lens, for not much use. (for me)

I think a wider lens would be more of a necessity if I had a lens starting at 18mm upwards.

Are you referring to the Nikon version which has VR???

Why do you need a tripod if you have VR and what is it that you are not happy with at 200mm??

Phil.

the new sigma 18-250 OS is getting good reviews
also my travel setup is currently just a 17-55 IS
but for the option of zoom I'll probs get the canon 55-250 IS as it's quite cheap
Is there an option for this sort of setup on Nikon?

Fully agree with this the 16-85 is a great travel lens.
