Hi guys, I am off to Prague in a week and a half and want to get opinions on anything I might have missed out.

So far I have got:

:Backpack for days out
:Crumpler messenger bag for evenings out
:my D90
:50mm prime
:18-55mm kit lens
:70-300mm tele
:raynox 250 macro
:2 16GB SD cards
:SD card reader
:Charger
:2 battery's
:wireless remote
:wired remote
:flash
:spare AA batterys
:Lens Pen cleaner
:microfiber cloth
:Tripod
:hotshoe spirit level

Anything I am missing there? I know I lack filters but still have not had the money to pick any up, any recommendations of some budget (but not crap) filters that would be useful? would love an ND but think I need to go decent or not at all imo.

Thanks.

Hi there - are you going to take your laptop so you can download? Have a good trip.

Hopefully my tablet if I have it back (currently being repaired and due to get it back day before we go), if not will be picking up some extra SD cards to take with me and backing up to spare SD's using my sister in laws macbook.

If it were me, travelling, I'd leave behind the tripod, flash, spirit level etc.

You don't want to be burdened by those - trust me - I wanted to chuck mine away when I went to South America! Don't feel like you should bring everything just because you can or own it!

Kitchen sink.

Travel light and enjoy your trip. You don't want to have your hobby to become a burden.

If you look at any of my Landscape shots either on Flickr or my website they are all taken using these ND Grads to balance the sky's!
IMO for the money they are unbeatable!
I also use the filter holder and adaptor rings from here which are equivalent to the Cokin ones!
Can't comment on the solid ND's as never used any!
Hope this helps!

Tripod is going in as want to be taking night shots, its relatively small and light and will only come out with me after dark where I will be going to a location then back to the hotel :)

Two remotes as wired has shutter lock for star trails and remote for self portraits etc.

And that all packed up weights b****r all and it will only all be in there for the flights, otherwise tablet and sanitiser gel etc will be going in but tablet will get left at the hotel.

Thanks for the link cotty, also spotted these http://www.amazon.co.uk/24pcs-Square-Graduated-Filter-Adapter/dp/B008H34H88/ref=pd_sim_ce_2

Can I go far wrong with that filter kit?

Even if the actual filters are utter rubbish you've still got a full set of adaptor rings that from the reviews are metal and a filter holder for just over £30 so long as they are standard P size which it states they are you could chuck the filters and get the ones you need but better quality and just used the holder and adaptor rings!
I very rarely use anything other than a 2 stop soft or hard ND Grad!

Very good point, think I will get those :)

Also can anyone see me getting any use out of my 300mm tele in Prague? from the photos I have seen of the city there does not look like there are many times I would want / need to use it over my 50mm or 18-55mm lenses.

Sorry to jump in here, but do these filters give any colour cast? Are they solid but? Just curious as I'm looking to buy a set for my holiday.

If you stack them you do get a cast that can be easily rectified in pp,but if you use them singularly then none that I can tell.
I personally use the wide angle filter holder that only allows for 1 filter to be held at a time as most of my landscape stuff is between 12-17mm on DX and the standard holder that lets you hold 3 filters at a time vingettes below about 20mm!

I suppose a Swiss Army pocket knife is not allowed on flights, unless you put it in main luggage, well I'm not clear on those, but you could do with one if you are able to take it with you? If not, then get something similar, some kind of mini tools, maybe suited for fixing glasses or for repairing jewellery, especially small screwdrivers, for minor repairs to your camera.

Also a few spare banknotes in the bottom of the bag, just enough to buy a couple of packs of AA batteries as back-up should you ran out of the spare batteries you have. The idea is to never take it out and use it, leave it in the bottom of your bag, and use the money in your wallet or pockets, the money is only to be used for more batteries.

yup got a few :)

Just checking. In another point do you have a battery grip ? MD80.

Ok more to carry but allows the use of six AA batteries, which its a good cover if the rechargeables die.

Spare undies?

Seriously though, I like to keep it simple. It's hard to balance between the "not wanting to miss an opportunity" and not taking too much. But you might miss some really cool stuff by actually over planning. It's something I've had to learn too!

Indeed that's why I am considering leaving the 300mm at home, its a big chunk of weight gone and without it I can easily fit camera, kit lens, prime, flash, batterys etc etc into my crumpler which will be much more comfortable and not to mention more secure and less noticeable than the backpack, tripod can go in its carry bag and over the same shoulder as the crumpler (or over the missus' shoulder if I ask nicely :P ) for when I need it.

I have the same "fun" planning what to take myself. Next trip I'm just carrying a d3100, 35 1.8 and 14 2.8 plus charger. It's the extras that start to add up! I took the 35 and the 10.5 on the last trip, that was sweet.
