Hi All,

I'm currently using a pretty standard bag. However, this year I have 3 destination weddings booked and so I'm looking for something rigid that will protect my cameras on a plane but also small enough to be taken on as hand luggage.

Any recommendations? I assume a few of you will have previously been in the same situation as me...

Not bothered about brand (I refuse to pay another £200 just for a label)

Cheers

I dont have any suggestion on a bag just saying that you need too decide on what gear your after taking and then look at a bag too suit them :) Btw there a bag finder on Lowepro you put in your gear and it gives suggestions http://www.lowepro.com/bagfinder

There was a link on here a while back for an imitation Peli case with foam insert.

That would be the best idea.

Avoid wheely bags. I know quite a few who've had to re adjust focus in lenses due to the vibration.

Which airline(s)? Yeah yeah yeah, you probably haven't given that much thought, but you need to. The question is pretty meaningless otherwise. Airlines vary hugely in terms of what they'll allow as carry-on baggage, both dimensions and weight. For example if you're going to Italy, BA allow you 23kg in a 56*45*25cm bag, plus a handbag or laptop bag; whereas Alitalia only allow you 5kg in a 55*35*25cm bag.

HERE is a super photographer-centric guide to the baggage policies of many airlines.

Just pay ThinkTank the money. They design stuff for exactly this. Unusually in a label dominated world, their kit is worth it.

Have to say that I'm with Jonathan on this - the bag is a tool of your trade to carry other tools of your trade so it'll pay to get a decent one. Also, as Stewart has said, make sure you comply with the airlines' rules - they DO sometimes weigh bags and measure them and you'll look a bit silly if it's a bit too big to fit their box and it has to go in the hold...

Serch for a peli or a vanguard case the rigid ones are pretty bombproof, lockable and come in various sizes and are also available with ' pick and pluck foam' or dividers.
